We are seeking a proactive and skilled Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapy Advanced Practitioner to enhance our Hand Therapy Service across North Devon, focusing on both surgical and non-surgical interventions for hand, wrist, and elbow conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate should possess either Band 7 qualifications or be an experienced Band 6 professional ready to advance to Band 7 within a 6 to 9-month timeframe. The role involves managing a caseload of patients referred by various healthcare professionals, including Orthopaedic Hand Surgeons, General Orthopaedic Surgeons, and GPs within the North Devon area.

Additionally, referrals from the Plastic Surgery team in Exeter and the Plastic Surgery Satellite Clinic at North Devon District Hospital will be part of the post holder's responsibilities. The role requires providing clinical oversight to fellow team members and offering training to other departments across North Devon. Close collaboration with Hand Surgeons in clinics is essential to ensure a multidisciplinary approach that guarantees exceptional patient care.

Candidates should have prior experience in Hand Therapy and ideally hold a British Association of Hand Therapy accreditation or be willing to pursue this qualification. Demonstrated knowledge of hand and upper limb conditions, core assessment and treatment techniques, and advanced splinting capabilities are expected. Opportunities for further training in injections, theatre assistance, x-ray requests, and other advanced skills will be discussed as part of ongoing professional development once in position.

If the successful candidate is an Occupational Therapist, they will also be required to provide coverage for the Rheumatology Outpatient Service during staff absences.

This position offers a chance to solidify and expand your skills and academic knowledge through participation in Continuous Professional Development and various training opportunities. Regular clinical supervision will be provided, along with the chance to engage in the Trust's biannual OT and PT Professional Forum, which brings together therapists from diverse services to network, learn, and exchange best practices.

Work Schedule

The role entails working Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and bank holiday shifts to support the current inpatient rota.
