Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapy Advanced Practitioner to enhance our Hand Therapy Service in North Devon, focusing on both surgical and non-surgical interventions for hand, wrist, and elbow conditions.

Role Specifics:

The ideal candidate should possess a Band 7 qualification or be an accomplished Band 6 professional ready to advance to Band 7 within a timeframe of 6 to 9 months. The successful applicant will manage a caseload of patients referred from various sources, including Orthopaedic Hand Surgeons, General Orthopaedic Surgeons, and GPs.

Additionally, referrals from the Plastic Surgery team in Exeter and the Plastic Surgery Satellite Clinic at North Devon District Hospital will also be part of the caseload. The role includes providing clinical guidance to fellow team members and delivering training across North Devon's healthcare teams. Collaboration with Hand Surgeons in clinics is essential to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to delivering exceptional patient care.

Candidates should have prior experience in Hand Therapy and ideally hold a British Association of Hand Therapy accreditation or be willing to pursue this qualification. Demonstrated expertise in assessing and treating conditions affecting the hand and upper limb, as well as advanced splinting techniques, is required. Opportunities for further training in injections, theatre assistance, and other advanced skills will be available as part of ongoing professional development.

If the successful candidate is an Occupational Therapist, they will also be expected to provide coverage for the Rheumatology Outpatient Service during staff absences.

This position offers the chance to strengthen and expand your skills and knowledge through participation in Continuous Professional Development and various training opportunities. Regular clinical supervision will be provided, alongside the chance to engage in the Trust's biannual OT and PT Professional Forum, which fosters networking and the sharing of best practices among therapists from diverse services.

Work Schedule

The role requires a commitment of working hours from Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and bank holiday shifts to support inpatient rotas.

Additional Information

Preference will be given to individuals with 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status, including NHS At Risk staff throughout the region.
