ROLE SUMMARY

As a key member of the TechOps Team within the broader Operations division, reporting to the Director of TechOps & IT, you will oversee our data center systems that are vital for operational efficiency. We are looking for a proficient and seasoned Building Management System (BMS) Engineer/Manager to join our ranks. The successful candidate will be tasked with the design, implementation, and maintenance of BMS solutions aimed at optimizing performance and energy efficiency in building operations. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, clients, and vendors to deliver integrated and innovative solutions across our diverse project portfolio. Additionally, this position may encompass responsibilities related to our security systems. You will work closely with the Tech Ops Infrastructure Manager, who oversees the hardware infrastructure, servers, operating systems, and network components that support our BMS and security systems. A strong technical background with a focus on enhancing the performance and security of our critical systems is essential. Proficiency in Niagara BMS is a prerequisite for this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

System Design and Implementation:

  • Design, configure, and implement BMS solutions tailored to project specifications.
  • Integrate various building systems, including HVAC, lighting, security, and energy management, into a unified BMS platform.
  • Ensure effective communication and interoperability among all BMS components.

Programming and Commissioning:

  • Develop and implement control algorithms to enhance energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
  • Conduct comprehensive system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Collaborate with project teams to facilitate timely and successful BMS deployment.

Maintenance and Support:

  • Provide ongoing support for installed BMS systems, including troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Perform regular maintenance, updates, and upgrades to improve system performance and security.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for end-users and maintenance personnel.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of BMS designs, configurations, and programming logic.
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, energy consumption, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Engage closely with clients, project managers, architects, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements.
  • Work with external vendors and suppliers to select appropriate BMS components and technologies.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software vendors to procure components and stay updated on technological advancements.

Application Management:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of BMS and security systems, coordinating with both internal and external resources.
  • Ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of applications and associated systems.

Infrastructure Management:

  • Collaborate with the infrastructure team to manage the design, implementation, and maintenance of the hardware infrastructure supporting BMS and security systems.

Server and Operating System Optimization:

  • Manage and optimize server configurations to support BMS and security applications effectively.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in operating systems, implementing necessary upgrades and patches for enhanced security and performance.

Network Architecture:

  • Work with the Tech Ops Infrastructure team to design and maintain the network architecture supporting BMS and security systems, ensuring seamless communication and data transfer.
  • Implement robust networking solutions for optimal system functionality.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure all systems comply with industry standards, regulations, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting processes.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in BMS design, implementation, and programming.
  • Strong understanding of building systems, HVAC controls, and energy management.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as BACnet, Modbus, and PLC languages.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, including ASHRAE and LEED.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Certification in Building Automation Systems (BAS) or equivalent.
  • Experience with leading BMS platforms (e.g., Niagara, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls).
  • Knowledge of IoT technologies and cloud-based BMS solutions.
  • Understanding of cloud-based resilience strategies.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Highly organized and self-directed.
  • Experience in vendor management.
