We are pleased to announce an exceptional opportunity for a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist to become part of our dedicated West Sussex Care Delivery Service on a fixed-term basis. This position is situated in Jade Ward, which specializes in providing in-patient care and treatment for adults.

This role offers a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000, along with a potential relocation allowance of up to £8000. The Recruitment and Retention payment is distributed in the following manner:

  • £5000 upon appointment
  • £5000 at the 12-month employment anniversary
  • £6500 at the 30-month employment anniversary
  • £8500 at the 48-month employment anniversary
Please note that the Recruitment and Retention payment is pro-rata for part-time positions. For additional information regarding the full terms of the Recruitment and Retention Payment and/or the Relocation Allowance, please reach out to our Medical Staffing Team.

Main Responsibilities

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) on the ward to deliver outstanding care to patients admitted for treatment. You will also engage with other acute in-patient services and local community teams. This position allows for involvement in research, development, medical education, or special interests. We are committed to creating roles that not only provide essential services but also allow you to cultivate your own areas of expertise. Upon appointment, you will have the chance to connect with the Trust-wide consultant network and receive peer support from colleagues in West Sussex.

Job Duties

You will be part of a supportive and friendly multidisciplinary team, which includes Nurses, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, and other professionals. For comprehensive details regarding the role, please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Fully registered with the GMC and holding a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of eligibility.
  • Approved clinician status or the ability to achieve this within three months of appointment.
  • Demonstrated excellent knowledge in the specialty.

Desirable Criteria

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management.
  • MRCPsych qualification.
  • Good standing with the GMC regarding warnings and conditions on practice.
  • A broad range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the position within the NHS or a comparable service.
