Position Overview

NHS Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board is seeking a dedicated and proactive Pharmacy Support Specialist to become a vital part of the Medicines Management and Optimisation (MMO) Team.

The successful candidate will collaborate with designated GP practices to facilitate the execution of the MMO strategy. Valued by both the organization and GP practices, you will play a crucial role in the MMO Team, contributing to the advancement of Medicines Optimisation initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and addressing health disparities. This position presents an excellent opportunity for an individual to deepen their understanding of primary care and expand their experience across various healthcare environments.

While the role requires travel across the Birmingham and Solihull area, the MMO Team operates within six locality teams. Preferences regarding locality alignment will be discussed during the selection process.

The MMO team maintains core operational hours from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday; team members will fulfill their agreed hours within this timeframe. The ICB is committed to promoting flexible and agile working arrangements, ensuring equality and valuing all staff members.

Key Responsibilities

The Medicines Management and Optimisation Team is a large, dynamic, and innovative group that provides expert pharmaceutical guidance to GPs and other primary care professionals.

As a Pharmacy Support Specialist, you will join an innovative team dedicated to implementing the Integrated Care System (ICS) strategy aimed at enhancing care for individuals within the Birmingham and Solihull region.

Your duties will encompass:

  • Assisting in the evaluation of repeat medication systems, advocating for high-quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective prescribing practices.
  • Supporting the analysis and interpretation of data to aid Medicines Management and Optimisation team members in developing locally tailored action plans.
  • Engaging in mobile work between GP practices and ICB offices to deliver MMO services effectively.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess the following:

  • A recognized General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) accredited qualification or a GPhC approved apprenticeship for Pharmacy Technician.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a pharmacy technician.
  • Evidence of commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Relevant post-registration experience as a pharmacy technician.
  • Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and work protocols.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with intermediate keyboard skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to analyze information and compare various options.
  • Problem-solving capabilities.
  • Capacity to multitask and transition between tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
