KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Implementation of Advocacy Strategies

  • Assist in the execution of Save the Children's Advocacy Strategy for Ukraine, providing substantial input and coordination support for planned research and advocacy initiatives.
  • Facilitate engagement with essential stakeholders, including national and local authorities, UN agencies, and other relevant parties in Ukraine, ensuring Save the Children International (SCI) remains informed about the evolving situation and response, with a focus on child rights during recovery and integration efforts, child poverty, and other critical issues affecting children and civilians.
  • Contribute to the formulation of advocacy and policy materials for Ukraine, ensuring alignment with SCI's global policies through proactive and targeted research and collaboration with key contacts.
  • Assist in drafting and producing advocacy materials such as briefings, talking points, and reports on pertinent issues, ensuring they are evidence-based, regularly updated, and of high quality for use at various levels.
  • Support information gathering for initiatives related to reconstruction policy development and child poverty, including monitoring legislative changes, adoption of relevant strategies, and other significant themes.
  • Adhere to Save the Children's ethical research standards in all research activities, prioritizing the safety and well-being of all research participants, and ensuring compliance from Save the Children partners.

Desk Research

  • Conduct comprehensive desk research and contribute to the design of qualitative and quantitative research surveys and questionnaires.
  • Monitor advocacy project timelines, track progress, and update relevant colleagues and stakeholders as necessary.
  • Perform extensive mapping of advocacy stakeholders and research target groups in collaboration with the Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor.
  • Conduct preliminary data analyses and identify information gaps.
  • Draft narrative reports based on research findings and assist in developing research reports and corresponding advocacy materials.

Situation Analysis and Information Management

  • Regularly conduct sectoral and contextual research and, when requested, provide written analysis on how children have been impacted by the conflict in Ukraine, particularly regarding their involvement in decision-making processes related to reconstruction and the country's path towards EU integration.
  • Proactively identify and take ownership of key advocacy opportunities, producing materials in close coordination with relevant teams.
  • Gather and process information related to the needs and processes of reconstruction (and associated political processes) in Ukraine, producing high-quality briefings and context updates as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

The responsibilities outlined above are not exhaustive, and the role holder may be required to undertake additional duties within the scope of their skills and experience. In the event of a significant humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to adapt to changing demands and work outside the normal role profile.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES

Essential:

  • Degree in social sciences, journalism, law, human rights, or relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in advocacy related to child rights, human rights, international humanitarian law, or development issues.
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to quickly build relationships with diverse individuals.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and able to communicate effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent planning skills with the ability to manage a complex workload.
  • Strong communication skills in English and Ukrainian (written and spoken), with experience in multicultural teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience in research and advocacy work.
  • Experience influencing and advocating for children's issues.
  • Experience in humanitarian contexts and knowledge of key trends in the humanitarian sector.
