Job Overview

The General, Thoracic, Vascular, and Robotic Theatres are seeking to enhance their leadership team. We are in search of enthusiastic, proactive, and innovative individuals to assist the Clinical Lead. This role presents an exciting opportunity to engage with a diverse range of developing specialties.

The General, Thoracic, Vascular & Robotic Team oversees the upper GI Service, facilitating all upper GI surgical procedures, including Minimally Invasive Oesophagectomies, Breast Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Colorectal Robotic Surgery, Thoracic, and Thoracic Robotic Surgery, which includes VAT's Video Assisted Thoracoscopic procedures. The Norfolk & Norwich serves as a Reference Centre for robotic surgery, and our Vascular surgery unit collaborates closely with The Norfolk Centre for Interventional Radiology Department, providing cutting-edge minimally invasive techniques utilizing advanced imaging modalities, guided by X-rays, ultrasound, and CT scans.

While experience in these surgical fields is beneficial, it is not mandatory, as comprehensive training will be provided to the selected candidate.

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Theatre Manager, you will be tasked with leading and managing the theatres and the team on a daily basis. This includes providing oversight, organization, and coordination of staff, theatres, and all facets of service delivery, including HR auditing and data management. You will also have the chance to engage in theatre utilization and productivity, collaborating with all multidisciplinary teams involved in this process.

The individual in this role will support the clinical lead in delivering effective management and coordination of patient care and activities, ensuring the highest standards throughout the patient's surgical journey. This is aimed at fostering a patient-centered approach to delivering high-quality healthcare while upholding and promoting professional and Trust Pride values.

Job Duties

1. Demonstrate leadership through personal example, fostering positive interpersonal relationships and promoting high staff morale.

2. Coordinate and communicate the placement of appropriate personnel and skills across the department and other areas within the Trust, including during unexpected incidents.

3. Undertake designated responsibilities in the event of an emergency in accordance with Trust guidelines.

4. Participate in managing resources within the clinical area while adhering to the agreed budget.

5. Implement Trust and directorate evidence-based policies and guidelines.

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner on the appropriate part of the NMC/Health Care Professions Council register.
  • Completion of the mentorship preparation program or equivalent.

Required Experience

  • Experience in change management.
  • Significant experience at Band 5, with some time spent in a relevant specialty position.
