Position Overview

WE ARE RECRUITING

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Ministry Department is dedicated to nurturing and revitalizing both lay and ordained ministry across the Church of England. Our mission involves offering guidance and support to those exploring vocations, including ordinands, curates, lay ministers, and leaders at all levels, as well as dioceses and theological institutions.

Our team operates on a national scale, ensuring effective resource management, policy development, and the provision of expertise, guidance, and leadership essential for the sustainability and growth of the Church's ministry. We oversee the discernment, formation, and deployment of ordained ministers, equipping the Church to fulfill its mission for generations to come.

We assist dioceses in crafting proactive strategies to enhance vocations to ministry by facilitating networks of practitioners, sharing best practices, ensuring adequate resources, and delivering high-quality training for diocesan directors of ordinands and advisors.

We also support and guide the development of ministry and leadership throughout the entire lifecycle of clergy and lay ministries, which includes clergy human resources and senior leadership development.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Vocations Marketing and Communications Specialist is an integral part of the National Communication Teams, functioning within the National Development framework.

Your primary responsibility will be to engage, motivate, and influence all sectors of the Church to cultivate a vocational culture that encourages individuals, regardless of age or background, to explore the diverse range of ministerial vocations available to them and others.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, implementing, and leading a comprehensive marketing, communications, and engagement strategy; this role necessitates exceptional communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at national, diocesan, and local levels in a clear and concise manner.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to widely communicate the ministerial needs of the Church and a variety of opportunities for discernment, learning, growth, and service.
  • Creating and/or commissioning high-quality written and video content and updates; this will also involve supporting the organization of both online and in-person engagement events.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • The successful candidate will be required to travel to various dioceses across England.
ABOUT YOU

The Church of England is committed to inclusivity and aims to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve nationwide. While we welcome applications from all interested and suitably qualified individuals, we particularly encourage applications from UK Minoritised Ethnicities (UKME)/Global Majority Heritage (GMH) and other under-represented groups.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Your Salary

  • A competitive salary of £56,833, along with age-related pension contributions ranging from 8-15% of salary. We will also match any pension contributions you make up to an additional 3% of your salary.

Your Benefits:

  • 25 days of annual leave (increasing to 30 days within 5 years), in addition to eight bank holidays and three extra days (pro-rated for part-time work).
  • We accommodate flexible working arrangements, with an expectation of just 1-2 days per week in the office. Each request is evaluated on a case-by-case basis to align with departmental needs, ensuring a healthy work-life balance.
  • Access to a range of family-friendly initiatives, including enhanced maternity leave, adoption leave, paternity leave, and shared parental leave. We also provide a structured induction program and various development opportunities, including apprenticeships.
  • Access to Occupational Health services and an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Eligibility for an Eyecare voucher.
  • Opportunities to join the Civil Service Sports & Social Club and participate in various staff networks, groups, and societies.
