Our Grant Management Group (GMG) offers Central Commissioning Facilities (CCF) for the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), overseeing several significant health research initiatives and associated services for NIHR, DHSC (Department of Health and Social Care), and UKRI-MRC (Medical Research Council).

Position Overview

Candidate Profile
We are in search of a meticulous and committed Management Accountant with a solid background in accounting systems and processes. Your extensive experience within finance departments equips you with a deep understanding of financial operations, reporting, and compliance. You are adept at managing accounting systems, ensuring precise financial data management and efficient processes. Your ability to thrive in environments where accuracy and efficiency are crucial will contribute significantly to our organization's financial health and development.

Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the Finance Team in managing the collection of income owed to UKRI-MRC, including forecasting, monitoring, and accounting/reporting for DHSC award finances and GMG operational finances. Responsibilities will encompass a variety of finance-related tasks, from report preparation and transaction processing to addressing inquiries from various sources and maintaining process documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Senior Finance Manager in the daily oversight of the UKRI-MRC contract Act as a representative of the Finance team to the UKRI-MRC programme team and other programme teams, including participation in their meetings Oversee the collection of income due to the UKRI-MRC, including forecasting, monitoring, and implementing measures to address or rectify breaches Evaluate funding applications against established eligibility criteria and assist in finance contract negotiations Analyze financial data to produce scheduled and ad-hoc reports Monitor finance contracts, including payment profiling, timely maintenance of schedules, and resolution of data quality issues Provide timely and accurate responses to inquiries from programme staff, contractors, customers, and other stakeholders regarding financial aspects of applications and funded research Engage in effective business partnering to gather relevant information for forecasting purposes Support research funding and committee expense payment processes as needed Maintain Excel-based tools, relevant accounting schedules, and systems Participate in a diverse range of internal finance processes, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives Provide ad-hoc support to finance management and undertake any other reasonable tasks as required by line management

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Experience, and Technical Skills
Essential Criteria

Proven experience in financial planning and analysis within a project and contract context Background in a finance department Strong experience with accounting systems and processes Proficient in computer skills, particularly MS Office (Excel) Ability to establish and maintain strong, productive working relationships, fostering trust and credibility with internal stakeholders at all levels Capacity to effectively organize workload, managing multiple prioritized tasks, targets, and deadlines Flexibility to work proactively and independently, demonstrating initiative in completing assigned tasks Skill in planning for varying workloads and adapting to changing business needs, anticipating support requirements during critical periods

Desired Criteria

Experience in a finance department within a grant management organization

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with an expectation for employees to attend the office a minimum of three to four days per week initially, transitioning to one to two days per week thereafter.
