Position Overview
This role is essential in supporting the Finance Team with the management of income collection, including forecasting and monitoring financial performance related to operational contracts. The successful candidate will engage in various financial tasks, from report preparation and transaction processing to addressing inquiries from multiple sources and maintaining comprehensive process documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Senior Finance Manager in overseeing the UKRI-MRC contract's daily operations.
- Act as a liaison between the Finance team and the UKRI-MRC programme team, participating in their meetings.
- Oversee the collection of income owed to the UKRI-MRC, including forecasting, monitoring, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Evaluate funding applications based on established eligibility criteria and support contract negotiations.
- Analyze financial data to produce scheduled and ad-hoc reports.
- Monitor finance contracts, including payment schedules and resolving data quality issues promptly.
- Provide timely responses to inquiries from programme staff, contractors, and stakeholders regarding financial matters.
- Engage in effective business partnering to gather relevant information for forecasting.
- Support research funding and committee expense payment processes as needed.
- Maintain Excel-based tools and relevant accounting schedules.
- Contribute to various internal finance processes, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide ad-hoc support to finance management and undertake other reasonable tasks as directed.
Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in financial planning and analysis within a project and contract environment.
- Background in a finance department.
- Strong familiarity with accounting systems and processes.
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Effective organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proactive and independent work ethic, demonstrating initiative in task management.
- Capacity to adapt to changing workloads and business needs.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in a finance department within a grant management organization.
