About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Buyer to join our team at the National Physical Laboratory. As a Senior Buyer, you will play a critical role in upholding quality while driving down cost, ensuring that the products, materials, and services we buy for the business represent value for money.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for a portfolio of products, materials, or services, overseeing the entire buying lifecycle from tender process to order placement.
  • Identify, manage, negotiate with, and monitor suppliers, building strong relationships to ensure timely delivery, cost-effectiveness, and quality.
  • Keep track of orders, ensuring they are delivered on time, at cost, and to the expected quality, and maintain the procurement system up-to-date at every stage.
  • Answer queries and resolve issues as needed, and take pride in furthering your own development and skills in line with any developments and legislation changes.

Requirements

  • MCIPS or equivalent degree qualification
  • Experience in Public Sector Buying and an understanding of Public Procurement Regulations and The Procurement Act
  • Proven track record in Public Sector procurement and use of Frameworks
  • Expertise in using procurement systems and E-tendering portals such as Bravo Solutions
  • Experience in procurement of high-value capital items
  • Ability to negotiate at the highest levels with suppliers
  • Able to deliver procurement benefits including financial savings
  • Strong prioritization skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and change
  • Excellent communication skills – written and oral
