Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Buyer to join our Buying team at Selfridges. As an Assistant Buyer, you will play a key role in supporting the Buyer in building relationships with suppliers, negotiating orders, and driving in-season trading.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support Buying Operations: Assist the Buyer in building relationships with suppliers, negotiating orders, and ensuring the ordering process is efficient and compliant with Selfridges processes.
  2. Negotiate with Suppliers: Negotiate the best possible terms with suppliers, including margin, trade discounts, and markdown support, working closely with the Buyer and Head of Buying.
  3. Commercial Decision Making: Work with the Buyer and Head of Buying to ensure that buying decisions are based on a sound commercial framework to drive sales and profit.
  4. Range Planning and Buying: Assist with range planning, buying appointments, and order writing/quantifying, working closely with the Merchandiser and Buyer/Head of Buying.
  5. Performance Analysis: Work with the Merchandiser to analyze performance, making recommendations to the Buyer, including performance vs. plan, category performance, and reorder/swap opportunities.
  6. Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with retail operations teams, including weekly floor walks, delivery and launch updates, and new season presentations.
  7. Brand Management: Manage the performance of brands through regular meetings with the brands and through analysis of their performance, making recommendations to both sides to action to support trade.
Requirements
  1. Assistant Buyer Experience: Already established in an Assistant Buyer role.
  2. Product Knowledge: Highly knowledgeable with a well-developed understanding of the product/market.
  3. Strategic and Operational Skills: Strategic and operational, with strong analytical skills and experience driving long-term and profitable commercial strategies, managing deadlines and projects through to completion.
  4. Communication and Influencing Skills: Engaging and able to influence stakeholders, retail, and brands, using data and market trends to drive commercial opportunities.
  5. Commercial Approach: Numerate with a highly commercial approach, as well as proficient in Excel.
  6. Collaboration and Organization: Collaborative, working flexibly as part of the wider Buying team, supporting projects and cross-functional meetings as appropriate.
  7. Attention to Detail: Organized with attention to detail.
  8. Interpersonal Skills: Having excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence.
