Outpatient Transformation Lead

Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom NHS England Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Improvement Manager to join our organization, focusing on advancing the outpatient transformation initiatives within NHS England. The Outpatient Transformation Lead will play a crucial role in facilitating enhancements in outpatient services as part of the elective recovery strategy, primarily within an Integrated Care System (ICS).

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include overseeing programs and projects from initial concept to full implementation. This involves collaborating with colleagues across various levels, fostering teamwork with senior clinicians, executive leaders, teams, and service users across different providers and sectors. You will work within your ICS to innovate care models, enhance service delivery, and improve operational efficiencies to better serve both patients and clinicians.

Building a robust network of stakeholders across the ICS, the region, and the national team is essential. You will stay informed about best practices and the latest advancements in the field.

Additionally, you will dedicate 20% of your time to regional initiatives in the East of England, contributing to national Elective Recovery programs.

This role offers a dynamic and varied experience, providing opportunities to engage in high-profile projects that positively impact patient care while expanding your professional network across national, regional, and local systems.

Essential Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with a comprehensive understanding of transformation processes and a proven track record in delivering strategic programs and projects, whether within the NHS, the public sector, or the commercial realm, including consultancy.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently and proactively, managing integrated work programs while closely collaborating with clinical and operational leaders to transform care across national, regional, and ICS frameworks. You should be capable of delivering results under tight deadlines and effectively prioritizing multiple competing tasks.

Experience in taking a broad directive and translating it into an actionable program aligned with key ICS priorities and national strategic goals is crucial. You will need to engage stakeholders effectively throughout this process.

Skills and Knowledge

Excellent communication and change management skills are essential, along with strong planning and program management capabilities to lead projects from inception to execution. Familiarity with working alongside analysts and digital leads is necessary, and experience in clinical or service redesign is advantageous.

A solid understanding of elective care, particularly in relation to national programs such as GIRFT (Get It Right First Time) and the National Elective Recovery Program, as well as improvement methodologies and digital solutions, is desirable.
