Position Overview

The Head of Planned Care and Enhancement will report directly to the regional Chief Operating Officer. This role is pivotal in steering the NHS' ambitious initiative to further transform planned care services, including Cancer and Diagnostics, while ensuring adherence to national standards for planned care. The individual will be responsible for amplifying current efficiency, productivity, and transformation efforts to propel relevant programs, ensuring that patients receive appropriate care in a timely manner, thereby enhancing access, reducing waiting times, and improving clinical outcomes and experiences for all patients requiring planned care within NHS provider environments.

Key Responsibilities

The Head of Planned Care and Enhancement will manage all facets of planned care delivery, performance, and transformation at a regional level, contributing to the formulation of our strategic approach to planned care and the realization of enhanced performance, efficiency, and productivity. This role will leverage existing initiatives with a concentrated effort on mitigating unwarranted variation and ensuring the implementation of best practices. The individual will serve as the professional lead for improvement across the region and will act as the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for NHS IMPACT. Additionally, they will represent the Regional Chief Operating Officer as necessary.

Job Responsibilities

The incumbent will serve as the regional SRO for Planned Care and NHS Impact, as well as the Regional Professional Lead for Improvement.

- Spearhead the execution and development of the National Elective Recovery Plan and the Regional Elective Care Strategy.

- Formulate the region's strategy for monitoring and fostering continuous improvement in planned care performance across services, collaborating with analytical teams to establish clear and consistent performance metrics for evaluating service delivery.

- Provide leadership for the Elective Care, Diagnostics, and Cancer Programs within the region, supporting the delivery and enhancement of performance across these areas.

- Collaborate with the Cancer Alliances within the region, which hold primary responsibility for cancer improvement and transformation initiatives.

The individual will report to the Regional Chief Operating Officer as part of their Leadership Team and will work closely with directors across the regional team and each Integrated Care Board (ICB).

  • Extensive management experience at a senior or Board level.
  • Profound understanding of large and complex operational NHS organizations and the mechanisms for effecting change within them.

  • Significant experience across various healthcare settings, including the acute sector.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with multiple NHS organizations with sometimes conflicting objectives to achieve consensus and drive change.
  • Extensive experience in senior program management, structuring the delivery of complex initiatives, managing fluctuating workloads, and overseeing resource allocation.

Knowledge

Essential Qualifications

  • Demonstrable expertise in the national strategy for planned care services, including diagnostics and cancer.
  • Proven understanding of NHS Impact and Continuous Quality Improvement methodologies.
