Job Summary:

The Polaris Community is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Manager to join our Residential Childcare team. As a Deputy Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of our service delivery, promoting a caring environment that provides young people with a high standard of support.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support the Registered Manager: Work under the direction of the Registered Manager, deputise for the Registered Manager as and when required, and support with the day-to-day running of all aspects of the home.
  • Supervise and Monitor: Supervise Key/Support Workers, ensure supervision processes are implemented and recorded, and support the Registered Manager with the monitoring and evaluation of care delivered to young people.
  • Leadership and Staff Supervision: Provide leadership and staff supervision skills, support the Registered Manager with staffing requirements, and ensure the training needs for all staff are identified and met.
  • Personal Care and Support: Provide the highest level of personal care and attention to young people, following individual care plans carefully, and ensuring all contact is polite, friendly, warm, and supportive.
  • Social and Emotional Wellbeing: Promote the social and emotional wellbeing and development of young people, and consistently strive to further develop these skills.
  • Positive Behaviour and Education: Promote and encourage positive behaviour, education, independence, and self-determination, and ensure services are delivered in a non-judgmental and anti-discriminatory manner.
  • Statutory and Legal Requirements: Ensure compliance with statutory and legal requirements, including Ofsted, COSHH, Health and Safety, and the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 (England).
  • Health and Safety: Ensure all appropriate risks assessments are updated, and all staff are informed of any changes to health and safety legislation.
  • Environmental Health and Infection Control: Support the Registered Manager with the effective running of the home, ensuring all legislation and regulations concerning environmental health, infection control, building control, planning, and health and safety are met.
  • Communication and Relationships: Establish and maintain effective means of communication and good relationships with young people, relatives, employees, and external professionals.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Residential childcare experience (2+ years)
  • Hold Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce or equivalent
  • Child Protection experience
  • Leadership and staff supervision skills
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication
  • Management of budgets and staff rotas
  • Project management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal development
