Edinburgh, United Kingdom Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society Full time

**Closing date** 10:00 Monday 20 May 2024
**Interview date**: Monday 27 May 2024
**Start date**: Monday 05 June 2024
**End date**:Friday 06 September 2024
**Location**: Office based, central Edinburgh

**Background**:
The idea at the heart of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is simple: anyone with a desire to perform and a venue willing to host them is welcome. No individual or committee determines who can or cannot perform at the Fringe.

It all began in 1947 with eight companies - six of them from Scotland - taking a risk, turning up uninvited and performing on the ‘fringe’ of the inaugural Edinburgh International Festival. Over 75 years later, the Fringe has grown to become one of the greatest platforms for creative freedom in the world, second only to the Olympics in terms of global ticketed events. In 2023, 3,553 shows took place in 288 venues across Edinburgh.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society was founded by artists to nurture and uphold the Fringe's values of inclusivity, experimentation and imagination. We exist to support, advise and encourage everyone who wants to participate in the Fringe, provide information and assistance to audiences, and celebrate the Fringe and what it stands for all over the world.

The Operations Assistant sits within the Operations team, managing the mailout of the Fringe programme and offering general administrative support to the team. During the Fringe, the Operations team is based across two city centre locations and this role will work across both sites as required, assisting with a variety of other tasks such as customer service and supply management. This role will suit a person with good administrative skills and an organised, methodical approach to work.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced individual to the position of Operations Assistant (reporting to the Facilities Manager) within the Operations team.

**Role and responsibilities**:
You will perform a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:

- Create and maintain a customer database for our annual programme mailout.
- Facilitate the process of sending out programmes, including packaging programmes and arranging for postal collections through Royal Mail.
- Ordering of stationery and supplies.
- Printing ID passes for Fringe Society staff.
- Working with the Fringe Central Manager to ensure the smooth running of Fringe Central, our temporary off-site office during the festival.
- Covering Fringe Central Reception where necessary.
- Ordering, pickup/delivery of supplies required for Fringe Central.
- Other administrative tasks as required.

**Person specification**:
**Essential**
- Experience working in a busy, fast paced office in an administrative.
- Good office skills and experience working with Microsoft software, especially Excel.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Exceptional organisation skills with great attention to detail and deadlines.
- Enthusiastic and proactive.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Adaptable and able to pick up new information and systems quickly.
- Good command of English.

**Desirable**
- Experience of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe or working within a similar festival.
- Local knowledge of Edinburgh and the festival season.
- A knowledge of manual handling techniques.

**Rate of pay and hours of work**:
The rate of pay for this post is £12 per hour.

Normal working hours in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society are 35 hours per week, worked between 09:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday, and your hours should fit within this schedule. In the run up to and during the festival, there may be a need to work additional days. There is no overtime entitlement, but the Society does maintain a TOIL policy for additional hours worked.

The Fringe have identified six pillars of commitment around the sustainable delivery of their work, are active members of the Festivals Edinburgh Sustainability Working group and include climate action as one of the headline targets in the Fringe development goals. As part of the commitments of this work, all Fringe staff members are expected to assist with the Fringe Society’s environmental goals and consider these in all elements of your work.

Application deadline: 20th May, 2024
