We are seeking a self-motivated professional with web technical skills to join the Online Operations team and support the development of new digital products and support business-as-usual functions.

The Online Operations Officer will provide day-to-day administration and maintenance of the online systems that make up Islington council’s online landscape - including the Council’s Sitecore website, directories, promotional and campaign sites. You will ensure the Council’s online products adhere to the GOV.UK digital by default principles and accessibility standards.

The post holder will be required to lead on bespoke web projects, make recommendations for online solutions to advise senior management across the council on the best solutions to meet business objectives and the wider needs of the council, residents and businesses.

Configuring components, building forms, system maintenance and troubleshooting issues on Sitecore content management system are a large part of this role.

There will be opportunity to be involved with large-scale transformation projects such as the implementation of a new intranet, Digital Experience Platform (DEP) and Content Management System (CMS) that will replace Sitecore.

Work as part of a cross functional team and support the delivery of an effective digital service to customers or internally to staff which support user centered design and enable accessibility to Council services for all.

Working under the Online Operations Manager, you will work closely with a hardworking and friendly team of professionals, which include a Senior Online Operation Officer, Online Operation Officer and Digital Accessibility Analyst who share the same aim of providing fit-for purpose, accessible, user focused digital products and services for Islington residents and businesses.

We adopt agile ways of working and follow the SCRUM framework for delivering projects.

CMS administration
- Provide system administration, account creation and maintenance for key Council websites, including the Sitecore content management system for islington.gov.uk
- Use components within the content management system (CMS) and Granicus digital experience platform to create forms and configure other functionality.
- Back-up and monitor the security of legacy WordPress websites.
- Manage the day-to-day use of our asset library (images, audio, video, etc.).

Agile software development (scrum team)
- Work as part of a cross-functional and multi-disciplinary team agile team to develop digital solutions and support existing infrastructure.
- Support a DevOps culture and participate in SCRUM events and backlog refinement activities.

Website development / Project work
- Understand project management principles as applied to web development and ability to multi-task across a variety of web projects and to prioritise under pressure.
- Develop and deliver online forms within the CMS or digital experience platform (DEP).
- Work closely with strategic communications and business leads to create digital offers in support of the council’s corporate and strategic priorities, ensuring that activity is appropriately targeted and positioned to engage relevant audiences and encourage behaviour change where applicable.
- Play a key role in the development, delivery and evaluation of the council’s in-house built websites. As part of this, take the lead on requirements gathering, speaking to developers about feasibility, putting together a development schedule, co-ordination of content creation, developing test scripts and training plans.
- Conduct usability tests and provide analysis and recommendations based on the results.
- Work jointly with team members to create wireframes, mock-ups and prototypes.

Technical support
- Provide support for resolving website and intranet issues, ensuring timely and accurate communication with users in line with service level agreements.
- Play a key role across the digital landscape and support senior users of third-party systems - ensuring that opportunities to increase engagement with target audiences about the council’s work is maximised and that the council’s messages, position and brand is both protected and enhanced. As part of this, facilitate review meetings to discuss enhancements and bug fix priorities for suppliers/developers.
- Manage external suppliers in line with council procurement policies.
- Contribute to the team’s webdesk rotas to support website enquiries and provide guidance to staff and support customers to self-serve where appropriate.

- Ensure websites deliver best value for money through effective website enhancements, bug fixing, user journeys and continuous service improvement.
