Job overview

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic nurse to become part of the Senior C30 Major Trauma Team. C30 is an 18 bedded specialist unit that looks after patients that have sustained multiple traumatic injuries.

C30 receive patients directly from the Emergency Department (ED), theatre, patients stepping down from Critical Care and patients that are transferred from other hospitals. You will be supported to access new opportunities to learn new skills and career progress within our team. C30 is a forward thinking environment which encourages education and development of all staff. Our education team will support opportunities for you to develop specific trauma knowledge and competencies, both in and away from the ward environment and enable you to create a development plan.

To act as the deputy to the ward sister, regularly taking charge of the Unit and ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to the patients, together with a safe environment in which care is delivered and high standards are maintained.

Be an effective leader and role model for staff. To provide regular direct clinical care and use experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non‑clinical governance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Being able to demonstrate clear lines of communication within a defined clinical area which result in clear responsibilities being identified within the multi‑professional team.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Current level one NMC registration
- Possession of a mentoring course
- Have a suitable teaching and assessing qualification

Desirable criteria
- Diploma or degreee in health / nursing studies
- ECDL
- Research training / experience

Experience

Essential criteria
- Minimum of 3 years Band 5 experience
- Superivision of non registered staff, students
- Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relatives and staff

Desirable criteria
- Recent or current experience within the specialty
- Audit or research within the clinical area

Communication skills

Essential criteria
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
- demonstrate basic IT skills
- Can minimise interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication
