The band 6 role provides leadership and management support to the Ward Sister and ward team to ensure safe and effective running of both wards on a daily basis.

You will provide safe and effective running of both ward areas as the role entails delivery of direct patient care as well as ensuring that consistently safe and effective care is delivered to patients.

The ward team will work with you to develop competency relevant to the area within the agreed time frame. The ward is committed to providing the highest quality of care and maintaining consistently high standards in a professional and friendly atmosphere.

**We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Deputy Sister to join our friendly, dynamic team on the Children's Assessment Unit and Ward E37 within Nottingham Children's Hospital.

The Children's Assessment Unit provides cares for all acute medical emergency admissions either from Children's ED or the GP, we provide initial assessments and care until the decision is made to either admit or discharge home. E37 has 12 -20 beds and provides longer stay care for patients that are then admitted. The ward specialises in Diabetes and Respiratory conditions amongst many others.

**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
The post holder will act as Deputy to the Ward Sister. They will be required to:
Act as the deputy regularly taking charge of the ward and ensuring that standards and quality of care given patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained to a high standard.

Be an effective leader and role model and will be expected to provide regular direct clinical care and use experience to support. Being a visible point of contact for patients, visitors, relatives and staff acting as a resource for problems and needs and able to clearly present the patient’s view to others.

- NMC - Child
- 2 Years post reg experince
- Proven management experience

**Desirable criteria**:

- Experince of working in assessment unit
- Completed IV, CVL and chemotherapy competency packages

**Communication and relationship**:

- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate basic IT skills

**Desirable criteria**:

- Demonstration of team working and ability to work within a team

**Salary**: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
