GATESHEAD HEALTH NHS FOUNDATION TRUST SURGICAL SERVICES BUSINESS UNIT JOB DESCRIPTION Chemotherapy Unit Scheduling Admin Support BAND 3 1 JOB DETAILS Job Title: Chemotherapy Unit Scheduling Admin Support Employers: Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust Full-time ( 37 hours), Permanent Location: Surgical Business Unit Responsible to: Chemotherapy Unit Manager Accountable to: Admin Manager Chemotherapy Unit Manager 2 JOB PURPOSE To support the Chemotherapy Unit Manager and senior nursing team manage the scheduling of chemotherapy appointments Support the team to deliver timely, accurate bookings, making optimal use of the available capacity whilst ensuring safe scheduling against available capacity Ensure efficient utilisation of available chemotherapy unit capacity. 3 DIMENSIONS To provide support to the Chemotherapy Unit Manager to ensure patients are treated within the required timeframes. The successful post-holder will be required to contribute to the chemotherapy units overall service plans and development. 4 ORGANISATION CHART Service Line Manager/Surgical Matron Chemotherapy Unit Manager Chemotherapy scheduling lead Chemotherapy Unit Chemotherapy Unit Scheduling Admin Support 5 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Essential Microsoft Office: - Excel, Word, Access Good IT skills Familiarity with medical terminology Clear effective written and verbal communication skills Good analytical and problem solving skills To be aware of and comply with regulations concerning the Data Protection Act Previous experience of working within the NHS or similar healthcare setting Ability to provide flexible committed support with the ability to adapt to developing service needs Ability to supervise others and allocate work appropriately Desirable RSA II or equivalent Previous experience in scheduling or appointment bookings, ideally in a healthcare setting Knowledge of the Trusts Policies and Procedures Previous experience of working in cancer care Previous experience of supervising other staff 6 KEY RESULT AREAS To assist the Chemotherapy Unit Manager to ensure patients are booked within the required timeframes using standalone IT system (in house training will be provided and will be supported by NUTH).

The post-holder will be required to develop and maintain good working practices with all staff. This will involve liaising with primary and secondary care personnel as well as providing a professional, efficient service to the general public. The postholder should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role. To actively participate in the Trusts Appraisal system.

To adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, eg. Health & Safety at Work and Fire procedures. 7 FREEDOM TO ACT Guided by Trust policies and procedures but has the freedom to interpret and to initiate action as required within sphere of responsibility. 8 EFFORT & ENVIRONMENT Physical There is a frequent requirement for sitting in a restricted position, ie.

at a workstation for long periods each day whilst preparing reports and documentation. Required to input data into computer databases and spreadsheets where speed and accuracy are essential. Mental There is frequent requirement for long periods of concentration. There are frequent and unpredictable interruptions which require immediate attention.

Emotional - Regularly required to manage queries from anxious and distressed, or at times angry, patients and their families. 9.
