**Brief overview of role**

Are you looking to kick-start your career in finance? Bright Stars Nursery Group are recruiting an Apprentice Finance Assistant to join their team This front-facing role reports into the Commercial Manager, with duties including dealing with account queries and amendments, raising invoices, credit control and other financial administration duties.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Deal with account related queries from parents and Nursery Managers.
- Record all parent communications relating to finance on NMS.
- Prepare monthly invoices, ensuring all changes are captured accurately
- Undertake regular checks (including cross checks against registers, funding claims, starter report, leaver report, booking pattern changes report, funded children report, birthdays report) to ensure complete accuracy.
- Provide support to Nursery Managers in the administration of Early Years Funding
- Make amendments to accounts - booking patterns, part month calculations (new starters and leavers), transfer sibling discounts where needed etc
- Undertake regular checks to ensure the Nursery Management Software is 100% accurate to facilitate correct and complete invoicing of all children in attendance, including cross checks of registers against Bill Payers.
- Issue final invoices for leavers - balance with deposits where needed
- Record receipts and refunds of deposits
- Add all BACS payments received into accounts onto NMS and Sharepoint
- Allocate voucher payments to system
- Add approved discounts to accounts
- Keep accurate records of any special discounts/legacy/ring-fenced arrangements
- Issue invoices on the 25th of each month
- Credit Control - take a proactive role in credit control by following the Debt Management Procedure.
- Create credit control sheet for Management Accountant and Nursery Managers
- Add late payment penalties to accounts in accordance with the Debt Management Policy
- Assist in covering duties of other members of the team during their annual leave
- Record credits and additional income for Finance Team
- All other duties as requested from Finance/Managers/Directors to include but not limited to creating spreadsheets, providing data, and any other ad hoc duties required to meet the demands of the team.
- Participate in weekly team meetings via phone/in person
- Participate in monthly team meetings in person

**Training**

The Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship standard includes 6 AAT exams, in addition to the Synoptic Assessment as part of the End-Point Assessment (EPA) process.

The knowledge units will be delivered at the EMA training hub in Derby or Nottingham (depending on apprentices’ location) through day release.

AAT Modules are as follows:

- Introduction to Bookkeeping (L2 Unit)
- Principles of Bookkeeping (L2 Unit)
- Management Accounting Techniques
- Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements
- Business Awareness
- Tax Processes for Business

**Career Progression**

Upon completion of the apprenticeship, there is a full-time opportunity available, and potential to continue studying at level 4. Bright Stars are looking for someone who can demonstrate technical competence, initiative and a willingness to learn.
