**Job summary**:
You will be joint Head of Fintech for the Financial Services (FS) Team at DBT. This is an exciting opportunity to be right at the centre of the transformation of financial services as new digital innovations challenge old ways of working. The transformation of financial services will affect the whole of the economy and society, bringing gains such as financial inclusion and reducing barriers and cost to trade, but will also bring challenges. You will be working with industry to make sure the UK continues to be the international centre for financial innovation.

The UK FS sector is one of the UK success stories and it has the largest trade surplus of any services sector of the British economy, representing its strength and dynamism. The Fintech Team lead on international, cross-HMG and industry initiatives in Fintech in partnership with industry, and it will be your role to build on the significant work done to date and help capture this dynamism and growth for UK firms and determine a cross-Whitehall and industry trade and investment strategy.

This is a high-profile role, and you will be leading HMG involvement with how the sector scales by growing abroad and maintains its position as the preferred place for international fintechs to come and scale their businesses. The pace at which financial innovation is taking root is accelerating and you will be confident in discussing how new opportunities in AI, Web 3.0 or distributed ledger technology might be best exploited by the UK fintech ecosystem.

All of this makes for an exciting, busy, and varied job, with plenty of opportunity for travel, including organising trade missions and engaging with trade shows.

**Job description**:
The Fintech sector is so dynamic that inevitably you will need to be flexible and accept the need to prioritise. Your responsibilities will include.
- Leading a highly skilled sector team within the FS team, co-ordinating and driving DBT’s global financial technology trade and investment strategy across a broad spectrum of innovation by sub-sectors alongside trade policy and prosperity objectives.
- Developing and overseeing delivery of DBT’s Fintech strategy, ensuring global promotion is also representative of strengths across UK regions and devolved administrations. Ensuring priorities align with the wider financial, professional & business services (FPBS) sector plan and wider departmental/ cross Whitehall (XWH) priorities.
- Providing advice and support to Ministers, including key lines to take on emerging policy, and briefing notes for relevant meetings. Facilitating Ministerial engagements and utilising Ministers, HM Trade Commissioners, senior colleagues and industry VIPs to promote DBT’s Fintech agenda.
- Account/relationship manage strategically important key financial stakeholders, working in close collaboration with other teams in DBT and XWH.
- Overseeing communications, events, and marketing activity for the DBT Fintech team. Lead on DBT’s Fintech input at strategic events, including sponsorship of key industry events and DBT core events, ensuring value for money and a strong ROI.
- Be a dynamic member of the DBT FPBS leadership team; responsible for helping to embed new ways of working, sharing best practice and driving forward performance, giving direction and input to colleagues across DBT in Whitehall and overseas Posts.
- Collaborating across DBT and Whitehall to ensure plans are aligned and having maximum impact to cross-HMG objectives, such as the regional ‘levelling up’ agenda, maximising free trade agreements and digital economy agreements.
- HMG accepted the recommendations of the Kalifa Review of the UK Financial Technology Sector. You will work with trade associations, XWH, with devolved authorities and English regions to make sure the recommendations are implemented for the good of the sector.

**Management responsibilities**
- Joint direct management responsibilities for a team of civil servants (2 x SEO).
- You will be accountable for a proportion of the overall team budget and resources.
- Indirectly, you will need to embody best practice and demonstrate thought leadership / matrix management skills both across the FPBS team and the global overseas network.
