The Historic Ridgeway Volunteer Co-ordinator will engage individuals and groups from diverse communities across the project area in Oxfordshire and West Berkshire to carry out and enjoy practical outdoor tasks focused around historic features along part of the Trail between Wallingford and Ashbury in Oxfordshire.

Project staff are employed by Oxfordshire County Council as the host authority of an ambitious Trail Partnership of numerous stakeholders.

Guided by site management plans produced by the Project Manager, the Volunteer Co-ordinator will lead groups of volunteers in sawing and chopping down scrub, installing visitor interpretation signage, mowing long grass etc for the purpose of improving the condition, interpretation and accessibility of Scheduled Monuments and other historic features identified by the project.

Whilst the Project Manager will initiate contact and permissions with landowners/land managers, the Volunteer Co-ordinator will follow up by arranging access to site and ensuring the site is left in good order. The postholder will also decide what equipment, materials, training and motivation are needed to enable volunteers to carry out tasks safely and confidently and ensure volunteers enjoy the experience. To help the Project Manager build a picture of the impact of the project, the Volunteer Co-ordinator will develop and maintain records about the volunteer experience.
