We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Gastrointestinal Patient Pathway Coordinator to work in the Gastroenterology & Hepatology service (12 months fixed term contract).The post will work closely with clinical staff to support the delivery of high quality care for patients.

The post holder will support optimal pathways and timely access to various diagnostic GI procedures and outpatient clinic appointment. They will provide comprehensive support to the multidisciplinary team through the co-ordination of referrals & triage and vetting of waiting lists. They will be key in improving patient experience by providing support, information and reassurance to patients throughout their diagnostic pathways. The post holder will work closely with clinical teams to ensure prompt triage and bookings take place. The post holder will be required to work across a range of IT systems to coordinate the booking of patient appointments. The post holder will also assist with audits associated with new diagnostic procedures and work closely with the Cancer Alliance to feedback on success, building on best practice, advising on process and resource efficiencies.

The post holder will work both directly and indirectly with patients and their carers to assist in coordinating the care of patients through their hospital care journey, providing the patient with the relevant information and coordinate any test preparations that need to be sent or collected by the patient.

The post will be required to manage independently the co-ordination of appropriate service waiting lists to maximize the delivery of the streamlined diagnostic pathways, thereby improving the quality and experience for patients and their carers.

Their main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting - one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals - is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 1.3 million across southwest London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling around 3.5 million people.

The trust also provides care for patients from a larger catchment area in southeast England, for specialties such as complex pelvic trauma. Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases. The trust also provides a nationwide state-of-the-art endoscopy training centre.
