This role offers an exciting opportunity to join the Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) team at UCLH. We are looking for someone with good organisational and communication skills as they will work closely with a wide MDT Team including clinical oncologists, referring trusts and site-specific MDT coordinators. They need to be proactive and good at working independently as they will be responsible for managing their workload in a timely manner. They will also need to have good attention to detail to ensure patients move swiftly through their pathway. As a key member of the PBT team, they will work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary PBT team.

The post holder will be responsible for managing referrals received via the PBT National Referral Portal from a wide catchment area. They will need to ensure that all relevant clinical information is available to facilitate each patient’s discussion at a site-specific MDT.

They will support the delivery of performance targets including activity and Cancer Waiting Times, by tracking patients through their pathway, and escalating any potential breaches in a timely manner.

To proactively co-ordinate PBT patient pathways, tracking patient throughout the process, and taking action when required, to ensure appropriate treatment is received in line with national and local targets. A strong focus will be put on providing a high quality, effective and efficient service for both patients and the wider multidisciplinary team, with an emphasis on delivering a positive patient experience, and excellent customer care.

Working with the PBT Administrative team they will provide a high-quality administrative service to all patients, carers and referring practitioners accessing PBT services. This will include working alongside the PBT bookings coordinator.

In addition, they will provide supervisory support for the receptionists/concierge team.

UCLH has been designated as one of two national PBT centres for the UK. The PBT department is situated in the new Grafton Way Building and is equipped with four Varian Probeam gantries and a pre-treatment suite consisting of a dedicated CT and MRI scanner. Once fully established, this service will treat around 650 NHS patients and approximately 200 privately funded patients a year. The department mainly treats tumours of the CNS tumours, head and neck cancers and spinal/pelvic sarcomas. Paediatrics, and teenage and young adults, will make up approximately one third of the patient cohort.
