The postholder will support the School by having key areas of responsibility under the School of Psychology’s SHEW policy and to assist with the management of soft facilities services across the School. Working closely with the School Safety Health Environment and Facilities Manager and other colleagues you will provide high level support to ensure effective safety, health and environment and facilities service and support to the School’s core academic activities.
- **Duties and Responsibilities**

**Key Duties**
- To work closely with the School Safety Health Environment and Facilities Manager to provide cross school support for key areas of safety health environment and facilities.
- To coordinate a school wide program of research equipment service contracts, school owned equipment maintenance schedules and (where required) contractor callout and parts procurement.
- To co-ordinate cross school compressed gas safety and cryogen related training, and in relation to Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations (D.S.E.A.R.) and Control of Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH).
- Provide assistance in ensuring that the University level accreditation for ISO14001, ISO45001 and ISO45003 is maintained to the School, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements.
- Gather and analyse data and assist with Investigation and analysis of specific issues within Facilities operations and safety to inform management decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate.
- Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required.
- Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the department, including duties related to risk assessment and be a part of and contribute to the School’s SHEW Committee.
- Instruct and guide other employees across the School regarding University level Health and safety policies and school level safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as required.
- Ensure regular spot checking /auditing of buildings takes place both internally and externally, reporting findings for the attention of others or taking immediate action where required (e.g. where findings are of a significant health and safety nature).
- Fulfil role of deputy Environmental Compliance Officer (Dept. ECO) and assist with Environmental procedures for the school, including active promotion of positive staff wellbeing initiatives and contribution to the Green Impact or Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (L.E.A.F) awards.
- On occasion, deputise for the School Safety Health Environment and Facilities (SHEF) Manager, acting on the SHEF Manager's behalf in her/his absence within agreed structures of delegation.

**Facilities and Building Management**
- Undertake a variety of administrative duties related to building management and facilities to support the School, including but not limited to;
- Supervision of building maintenance progress
- Purchasing of building or research equipment using the Oracle financial system.
- Maintain an up to date and efficient electrical inventory management/WEEE waste and asset system

**Line Management**
- Provide line management, guidance and support to those working in the Health, Safety and Facilities team and working closely with other professional services teams within the School.

**General Duties**
- Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties.
- Abide by University policies on Health and Safety, Environment Sustainability and Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity.

**Essential Criteria**

**Qualifications and Education**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**- Professional experience such as chemical, biological or other laboratory experience with a willingness and aptitude to gain health and safety and facilities experience.
- Ability to set up standard office systems, excel spreadsheets, databases and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and make improvements as appropriate.
- Substantial experience acquired in a health and safety role, preferably in a scientific setting within specialist environments that are applicable to the diverse range of teaching and research activities that are carried out in the School under the remit of the post.
