**Research**
- To conduct research within human geography, particularly political geography with interests in social justice and contribute to the overall internationally recognised research performance of the School and its Research Institutes by the production of measurable outputs including bidding for funding, publishing in international academic journals, international conferences and/or other research outputs, and the recruitment and supervision of research staff, lecturers and postgraduate research students
- To contribute to and/or lead bids for funding
- To participate in professional meetings and conferences at national and international level, building networks to develop research outputs and standing within the area of specialism
- To participate in School research activities
- To contribute to the supervision of postgraduate research

**Teaching**
- To undertake work associated with examinations, such as setting and marking assessments and providing student feedback
- To act as a Personal Tutor and provide pastoral support to students, including supervising the work of Undergraduate and Master’s students and acting as a PGR progress review panel member as required

**Leadership**
- To provide academic leadership by co-ordinating the work of others to ensure areas of research/degree courses are organised and delivered effectively
- To be involved in the departmental level strategic planning and contribute to wider strategic planning processes in the University

**Other**
- To undertake and lead operational administrative responsibilities as requested by Head of School and senior management team, and contribute to and/or lead bids for consultancy and additional funds
- To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally and internationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the School and the enhancement of its regional, national, and international profile.

**Essential Criteria**

**Qualifications and Education**
- Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification or experience

**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**
- A well-established level of expertise and significant proven portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within the following research fields:

- Human Geography, particularly political geography
- Social justice e.g. race and power, impacts of globalisation and migration
- Substantial teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level, demonstrating teaching innovation and course development and design
- Established national and growing international reputation within academic field
- Proven substantial record of publications in national and international journals and/or other research outputs.
- Proven record of contributing to and/or leading successful research bids
- Proven ability to design, deliver and continuously develop modules across the Schools teaching programmes

**Pastoral, Communication and Team Working**
- Developing record of academic leadership
- The ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to students, appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances and to act as a personal tutor

**Desirable Criteria**
- Relevant professional qualification(s).
- Evidence of collaborations with industry.
- Proven ability to adapt to the changing requirements of the Higher Education community.
- Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance the teaching and research activities of the School.
- Proven record of taking responsibility for academically related administration.
- Ability to speak Welsh
