About us
We are a well-established tour operator specialising in self-guided hiking and cycling tours and based in Cheltenham. We offer hiking tours in the UK, Ireland and Europe. Our clients come to us because we are experts in putting together great hiking tours and use our knowledge to provide meaningful travel experiences.
You would be expected to book all accommodation, transfers and associated ground arrangements for tours and be responsible for and stay up to date to ensure the smooth running of tours during the season
British & Irish Walks operates a 7-day week support for clients on tours. So from April to October working hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5:30pm, primarily office based. However, during the season when tours are operated (April to October) there will be an expectation that if there are logístical issues with tours these may need to be dealt with outside of main office hours, including evenings and weekends. Applicants should be comfortable with this and an out of office mobile phone where clients can contact the office will be held on a rota basis by office staff.
Outside of the main season (November to March) the working week is 4 days per week with the option of more flexible working hours.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Liaise with suppliers and partner companies and potential customers
- Book and confirm relevant accommodation for the holidays along with transfers etc. as needed for the individual holiday ensuring that the holidays are booked within budget.
- Entering holidays on to the booking system, sending confirmations and invoices.
- Preparation and postage of route note packs, maps, tickets and any other necessary materials that need to be sent for clients.
- Organise luggage transfers for all tours where necessary or other transfers such as ferry tickets, train tickets or private car transfers.
- Manage the inventory of necessary maps and books.
- Solve issues that may occur with the logistics of tours during the season
- Occasional driving to meet clients or deliver information to guests.
Essential skills:
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills with a strong ability to multi-task
- A strong telephone manner and excellent customer service skills with the ability to engage with clients and suppliers over the phone in a friendly and confident manner
- Ability to work under pressure
- Strong working knowledge of all Microsoft packages particularly word and excel
- Full UK/EU driving licence
- Ability to manage your own time
- Strong problem solving skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- To take the duty manager phone for out of office enquiries on a rota basis
Desirable:
- travel industry experience
- Commercial experience, sales admin experience
- A passion for travel with the desire to further develop your career in this sector
- A passion for hiking and/or cycling
- A team player that is prepared to get involved in various parts of the business and is happy to learn and grow as the company grows
Working schedule is Monday to Friday but with some weekend availability between March and October.
