Widening Participation Lifecycle Officer

University of Warwick, United Kingdom University of Warwick Full time

Permanent position, 36.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE).

The University of Warwick has set out a clear vision in its Widening Participation Strategy that: By 2030, Warwick will be regarded as one of the UK universities with the greatest impact on social mobility, through its ability to recognise, inspire, and enrich talented students from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. We wish to be regarded as a beacon of excellence for our approach to social mobility and WP evidence-based research and practice nationally and internationally.

The Widening Participation (WP) team at Warwick is growing and under our new Divisional structure has been split into five core areas, all focused on the delivery of key strategic priorities. The areas of the team include Evidence and Evaluation; Academic Engagement and Internal Community; Educational Partnerships, Sustained Engagement and Access and Student Success.

We are looking to recruit a second Widening Participation Lifecycle Officer in the Access and Student Success space to lead the continued development and delivery of interventions which support our undergraduate and postgraduate student communities, including those engaged with the Warwick Scholars programme and our partnership with upReach, the social mobility charity. This provision is central to the university’s lifecycle approach to Widening Participation, offering guidance, encouragement and opportunities to Warwick students from widening participation backgrounds throughout their higher education journey

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with experience of supporting learners in their transition to and through university. You should have an understanding of the challenges and barriers to progression and success for students from widening participation backgrounds and a creative approach to developing programmes designed to address these barriers. You will have experience of project management, preferably in a higher education environment, and knowledge of current policies and practice in relation to supporting students from non-traditional backgrounds in higher education.

Working in collaboration with academic and professional services departments across the university you will support students in accessing a broad spectrum of opportunities designed to enhance the student experience and contribute to graduate employability. You will champion the provision of opportunities designed to be accessible to students from the most challenging widening participation backgrounds and encourage access programme students to ‘give back’ and gain additional skills by supporting future cohorts through tutoring, mentoring and coaching activities.

Working closely with the Widening Access Officer you will support the transition of access programme participants into undergraduate study and provide a key point of contact for widening participation students once they enrol at Warwick. Your work will also support the wider team in implementing the University’s Widening Participation strategic objectives. You will need to have a strong collegiate approach and be an effective team player.

Warwick operates hybrid working, with office days being led by operational need.

Interview Date: w/c 16 January 2023.
