University of Warwick, United Kingdom University of Warwick Full time

Permanent position, 36.5 hours per week.

The University of Warwick has set out a clear vision in its Widening Participation Strategy that: By 2030, Warwick will be regarded as one of the UK universities with the greatest impact on social mobility, through its ability to recognise, inspire, and enrich talented students from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. We wish to be regarded as a beacon of excellence for our approach to social mobility and WP evidence-based research and practice nationally and internationally.

The Widening Participation (WP) team at Warwick is growing and under our new Divisional structure has been split into five core areas, all focused on the delivery of key strategic priorities. The areas of the team include Evidence and Evaluation; Academic Engagement and Internal Community; Educational Partnerships, Sustained Engagement and Widening Access and Student Success.

We are looking to recruit a Widening Access Officer in the Widening Access and Student Success space to lead the continued development and delivery of our Warwick Scholars access programme for young people from across the whole Midlands region. This provision is central to the university’s lifecycle approach to Widening Participation, offering guidance, encouragement and opportunities to students from widening participation backgrounds from the very start of their higher education journey.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with experience of supporting learners through their Key Stage 5 studies and in progression to university. You should have an understanding of the barriers to progression for students from widening participation backgrounds and a creative approach to developing programmes designed to address these barriers. You should bring knowledge of current practice in secondary education, experience of working with or within the higher education sector and be able to demonstrate strong project management skills.

Working in collaboration with academic and professional services departments across the university you will support prospective students from widening participation backgrounds in accessing a range of attainment-raising provision to complement and enhance their post-16 studies. You will be responsible for recruiting schools and colleges to the programme and be the key point of contact for participants.

Working closely with the Widening Participation Lifecycle Officers you will support the transition of access programme participants into undergraduate study and encourage undergraduate Warwick Scholars to ‘give back’ and gain additional skills by supporting future cohorts through tutoring, mentoring and coaching activities.
Your work will also support the wider team in implementing the University’s Widening Participation strategic objectives. You will need to have a strong collegiate approach and be an effective team player.

Warwick operates hybrid working, with office days being led by operational need.

Interview Date: w/c 3 or 17 April 2023.

The role supports the University’s student lifecycle approach to widening participation by ensuring there is synergy between all phases of the Warwick journey, supporting students to access, progress and succeed in their studies
