Westminster, United Kingdom City of Westminster Council Full time

**About Us**:
**THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF 809 CONNECTED BUSINESSES**

Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where creative and enterprising people put local residents and businesses first.

Today, Westminster is the most connected borough in London. But, when David joined us in the mid-2010s, small businesses were still struggling to get connected to fibre. Without gigabit-capable broadband, some companies even resorted to biking memory sticks around the city, simply to share files with clients.

Although still in a junior role, David took the initiative and successfully made the business case for £2.8 million of European funding to support connectivity for small businesses across Westminster. Feedback from businesses has been overwhelmingly positive as the project has enhanced their communications with clients. The new connectivity allows them to make video calls and work remotely. As the pandemic hit and many more people needed to work from home, it became clear just how vital this investment had been.

Fast-forward a few years. Westminster is leading the way for connectivity, as a result of the project businesses are thriving, and David is heading up a service of his own responsible for delivery of the Smart City strategy.

**The Role**:
As an Income and External Funding Coordinator, you can make your own powerful contribution by ensuring that income-generating activities across the directorate are well-managed, which will in turn ensure we have the resources needed to deliver a great quality of life for every member of our community.

This is a unique opportunity to develop your career and knowledge within our supportive Public Protection and Licensing team. We want you to thrive with us, so we will provide you with plenty of guidance as you undertake activities that will ultimately deliver a net benefit to the council, and mitigate any funding losses - so we will look to you to resolve any outstanding debts, and maintain a close eye on contracts and potential risks relating to paid-for services.

Supporting the senior leadership team by handling forecasting and reporting, income collection and debt management activities, you will play a vital role in the success of the team. This will include providing analyses of financial and performance information so that senior colleagues can make the most effective decisions.

Balancing the needs of many projects, we will expect you to undertake an interesting range of activities such as identifying and bidding for external funding and managing grant funds. Building great working relationships with a variety of stakeholders such as Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), developers, government departments and other councils, you will keep a keen eye on emerging opportunities.

Developing an effective trading model that will allow BIDs to purchase additional resources, you will bring a creative approach to identifying how we can maximise our resources and funding - so your most creative ideas will always be welcome here

Please refer to the **Job Description** for more information.

**About You**:
We want you to think boldly and challenge us to do things differently, so you will excel with us if the thought of researching and implementing funding models for regulatory services excites you

As a highly numerate individual who has a background in analysing, evaluating and monitoring performance information, we will expect you to have experience of building partnerships with public and non-public sector organisations. Ideally this will be complemented by a knowledge of the financial running of a council service or directorate, and it would be really helpful if you have previously bid for (and ideally secured) external or alternative funding.

With the confidence to successfully develop and deliver projects, you will have the IT and communication skills (both verbal and written) to drive activities and deliver tangible change that will benefit Westminster’s local residents and businesses.

**What We Offer**:
Westminster is an amazing place. We are home to more than 200,000 residents from all backgrounds, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people work in Westminster. Westminster City Council’s strategy is to work towards a Fairer Westminster. A Fairer Westminster is one in which our communities are at the heart of our decision-making and help to determine the city’s future. By working directly with our communities and other partners, we can build a more inclusive city that celebrates our diverse communities, and where residents, workers and visitors from all backgrounds will feel welcome and safe.

As a forward-thinking Council we appreciate that people work in different ways, therefore our staff benefit from working a range of flexible working patterns as well as Agile working.
