The CSW in Sports Therapy works with the NSIC physiotherapy team delivering rehabilitation to patients by undertaking aquatic therapy, wheelchair skills, and various sports activities that assist the patients in achieving their physical potential. Taking responsibility for liaising with the community and other organisations to facilitate ongoing participation in sport and other leisure activities and for taking patients for sports sessions outside of the hospital setting. The ability to manage the physical needs of the patients during these times is required.

This is a new role to add to the existing Sports Therapy CSW role.

Organising and managing the Stoke Mandeville Hospital team at the Inter Spinal Unit Games in collaboration with the existing Sports Therapy CSW.

The successful post-holder must be an excellent communicator and motivator, with a proven record for taking responsibility and organising tasks, have a qualification in rehabilitation or sport or a related area, have experience of coaching others and have insight into the impact of disability and spinal cord injury. Knowledge of the different abilities and potential for varying presentations of spinal cord injury is essential. They will have established performance as a team player and sound knowledge of assessment of risk during the activities they lead.

An ability to take responsibility, be flexible and have a sensitive and empathetic approach is needed. Participation in manual handling tasks is crucial.
- To be responsible for coordinating and implementing the sports therapy component of the spinal physiotherapy rehabilitation for Spinal Cord Injury patients in conjunction with the existing Sports Therapy CSW and Spinal Physiotherapy Team.
- To support the Spinal Physiotherapy team to provide Aquatic Therapy and ward based treatment to patients with spinal cord injury.
- To be an independent practitioner working alone in a designated Therapy area (Sports Therapy department) and external community facilities.
