Radiotherapy Pathway Navigation Support Worker

The Kent Oncology Centre has two radiotherapy sites, one based at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and the other Kent and Canterbury Hospital.
The post holder will work as part of the Radiotherapy Pathway Navigation team to provide both clerical and clinical support to all teams within the radiotherapy pathway. Working within a multi-disciplinary team with close liaison with Clinicians, Physicists, Radiographers, Dosimetrists, Technicians, Nurses, CSWs and Clerical staff.
The main focus of this role encompasses reduction in the cancer waiting-list, thus facilitating more timely treatment and improved cancer access standards. The new innovative role will require liaison between cancer performance and the radiotherapy service, ensuring adherence to cancer targets. Staff will be required to attend Patient Target Lists (PTL) meetings, escalating issues to appropriate leads. Liaison across Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT) to facilitate timely completion of patient related tasks and utilisation of resources. The post holder will be responsible for booking and manipulating the complex radiotherapy pathways to ensure the individual requirements are tailored for each patient. They will also be key in communicating this information to the patient, also co-ordinate and sign-posting patient related queries during the entire patient radiotherapy pathway.
This will include booking, preparing all associated paperwork and ensuring care paths are in place to support for the pre-CT and patient treatment chats through to the end of treatment reviews and consultant follow ups. The role will also extend to support the brachytherapy service. A key aim of this role is to tailor the patient’s pathway to facilitate personalised care.
This is a newly created post with a 2yr Fixed Term/Secondment contract with the possibility of becoming Substantive after 2 years
Plan, prioritise and manage own work load, working to deadlines on a daily or long-term basis;
Will be expected to keep and maintain all records as appropriate;
Will be expected to plan, organise and record data accurately for use in patient preparation and treatment;
To ensure all patient-related tasks are completed in a timely manner and appointments booked accordingly
Cancelling and rescheduling of patient’s appointments, ensuring no patient is given an appointment on occasions when a treatment resource (such as Linear Accelerator) is unavailable;
Assist in the day-to-day running of the radiotherapy navigation pathway team -ensuring a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors is maintained in accordance with departmental policies and procedures;
Be one of the main points of contact for the radiotherapy pathway navigation team providing advice, guidance and support to the patients;
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the county of Kent.
