Non Specific Symptoms Fds Pathway Navigator

Maidstone, United Kingdom Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust Full time

The Faster Diagnosis Service is looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Non Specific Symptoms Pathway Navigator.

You will be expected to be highly experienced within the hospital setting with knowledge and evidence of specialised terminology and patient pathways. Educated to a level required to perform the role or equivalent experience, you will actively support and contribute to the requirements of the service and ensure compliance with performance targets and quality standards required at a local and national level.

Good collaborative working is imperative to the success of this project & new service initiative. You will also have the opportunity to develop within the role and actively participate in service improvement planning.

Patients entering the NSS pathway generally do not yet have a cancer diagnosis but a suspicion of cancer due to a combination of non-specific symptoms. As with other trusts nationally MTW currently do not have an established effective referral pathway. As a result, these patients often go back and forth between primary and secondary care which can lead to delays in diagnosis, higher rates of late stage and/or emergency presentation and poorer outcomes for the patient. MTW (along with the Kent and Medway Cancer Alliance) is moving forward to develop a new Non Specific Symptom Service to improve outcomes and experiences.

The role is demanding so you must have the ability to multi-task and remain calm under pressure. You will need good listening and communication skills and be able to deal with people both internally and externally in a sensitive and professional manner. The ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to Trust policies is paramount.

You will need to support and facilitate a co-ordinated patient experience focusing on improving the support and tracking of the patient through their diagnostics, treatment plans and investigations. Working within the multi-disciplinary team to support an uncomplicated rapid pathway.

You will be required to work across a range of in-house IT systems to coordinate the booking of patient appointments. Working both directly and indirectly with patients and their carers to assist in coordinating the care of patients through their hospital care journey, providing the patient with the relevant information and information packs, to coordinate any test preparations that need to be sent or collected by the patient.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the county of Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 760,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.

The Trust’s core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. We work from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Tunbridge Wells Hospital opened in 2011 and provides single rooms with en-suites for all in-patients - the first of its kind in the country.

We employ more than 7,000 full and part-time staff in a huge range of clinical and non-clinical roles across both of our hospital sites.

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.
