Quality & Governance Lead, Surgery & Cancer ICSU

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Quality & Governance Lead for Surgery & Cancer ICSU.

The post holder will lead, co-ordinate and advise on all aspects of clinical quality, risk management and governance processes across the Surgery & Cancer ICSU.

The post holder will be required to review, define, scope, plan, manage and deliver activities associated with the quality agenda.

The post holder will work as an integral member of the Surgery & Cancer leadership team to ensure learning from incidents and patient feedback within the ICSU.

The post holder will play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and will lead work to ensure improvement and assurance is understood, recognised, and used to improve the outcome for service users.

The postholder will undertake Patient Safety Incident investigations and other reviews as relevant and promote patient safety thinking beyond why things go wrong into examining why things routinely go right and how that can be maximised.

MAIN DUTIES

Lead and be accountable for quality governance deliverables within the ICSU.

Facilitate a culture of learning and improvement across ICSU services.

Provide training for PSIRF and risk management.

Promote improved understanding of governance mechanisms and systems within departments across the ICSU including how multi disciplinary professionals can work together to provide safe and quality patient care.

Validate and quality check all incidents, reported on the Trust’s risk management system (Datix) ensuring that areas of high risk and high patient impact are addressed and escalated immediately.

Work in collaboration with the central governance team in the implementation of PSIRF and support a systems-based approach when learning from patient safety events.

Undertake and support a variety of learning responses under PSIRF within the ICSU and ensure compassionate engagement with those affected by patient safety events is maintained.

Provide quality assure on investigations prior to submission to the Central Quality and Governance team.

Lead on learning responses with patient safety incident investigations.

Advise, design and deliver training relating to incidents and patient feedback for dissemination across the ICSU.

Have an overview of patient feedback for the ICSU including complaints, PALs queries, Friends & Family Test (FFT) and compliments.

Promote a culture where staff are confident in reporting adverse incidents and investigating.

Risk Management

Analyse risk and compliance data and make recommendations to ICSU committees to address identified deficits in safety and/or compliance and ensure agreed actions are completed.

Review the ICSU risk registers with service leads and ICSU triumvirate ensuring they are up-to-date and reviewed regularly.

Support staff with completing risk assessments and provide training on risk management as required.

Work collaboratively with other ICSUs to enable the identification of safety risks through adverse incidents, complaints, legal claims, H & S risk assessment, risk registers and other methods of risk identification (e.g., safety alerts, NICE etc) and ensure that any actions to mitigate identified risk are implemented.
