The Scrum Master is accountable for the effective running of the development process of Scrum. That is defined as over-seeing the continuous improvement for the way the development team operates. They do this by helping everyone understand Scrum theory and practice, both within the Scrum Team and the organisation.

The Scrum Master is accountable for the Scrum Team’s effectiveness. They do this by enabling the Scrum Team to improve its practices, including removing of impediments and improving the way that each team member operates.

The Scrum Master role includes support for the Team, the Organisation and the Product Owner.

**They support the Team by**:

- Coaching the team members in to continuously improve the way they work together
- Identifying and facilitating the removal of impediments to the Scrum Team’s progress
- Helping the Scrum Team focus on creating high-value product increments
- Strive for continual improvement, always learning about new tools and techniques for managing the scrum process and the team
- Runs the Scrum ceremonies for and on behalf of the Team and Organisation
- Ensures that all Scrum events take place and are positive, productive, and kept within the timebox

**The Scrum Master serves the Product Owner by**:

- Supports the Product Owner in the creation and delivery of the Planning Cycle (documented way of planning the resource and roadmap for effective development)
- Helping to find techniques for effective Product Goal definition and Product Backlog management
- Helping the Scrum Team understand the need for clear and concise Product Backlog items
- Helping establish empirical product planning for a complex environment
- Helps the Product Owner by removing any impediments to effective planning caused or created through the development teams

**The Scrum Master serves the Organisation by**:

- Planning and advising Scrum implementations within the organisation, e.g. Organises and run the Scrum ceremonies to ensure the development process is accountable to the Organisation and stakeholders
- Organises and run the Continuous Improvement Steering Group (The created meeting for the development team to interface with FlexMR management to ensure continuous improvement of the running of Scrum through the discussion of and removal of impediments to productive development)
- Leading, training, and coaching the organisation in its Scrum adoption
- Helping employees and stakeholders understand and enact an empirical approach for complex work

**Required Skills/Experience**
- Good communication and mentoring skills.
- First level Scrum Master certification (PSM I or CSM)
- Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
- Knowledge of/experience with patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach(e.g: Burndown techniques, Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc).
- GCSE English C or above, GCSE Maths D or above, GCSE Sciences D or above (or equivalent qualifications).

**Preferred Skills/Experience (not required but beneficial)**
- Knowledge and/or experience with widely used Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games.
- More (than 6 months’) experience as a Scrum Master.
- Applicable knowledge of the technologies used by the team (Ruby on Rails, React, JS, AWS).
- Previous experience as a team lead.
- Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
- Second level Scrum Master certification (PSM II or CSP).
- Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 20 per week

**Salary**: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
