**Job summary**:
Higher Analytical Officers are the powerhouse of Data and Insight. They take responsibility for a wide variety of products and outputs, including analysis and dissemination of findings. Although the skills are common across the roles, the exact responsibilities vary according to the work of each team.

Higher Analytical Officers usually specialise in one remit area; schools, further education and skills, early years, or social care. They develop expertise in the data for their remit area; develop the technical skills to extract, quality assure and analyse it appropriately; develop an understanding of the policy context; and deliver high quality outputs. In some roles proficiency in SQL, R, Python and advanced Excel skills will be required.

We are looking to appoint five Higher Analytical Officers (2 London based and 3 Bristol based).

**Job description**:
The key responsibilities of the role are outlined below. However, this is an overview of the role and is not exhaustive. Ofsted reserves the right to assign other duties commensurate with the **B2 **grade as required.
- To be a reliable source of knowledge about data in the relevant remit area including the systems in which it is held and how it is affected by policy changes.
- To contribute to the delivery of timely and accurate data which meets the needs of inspectors, the sector, and other audiences.
- To analyse patterns in our data and identify what they mean for the organisation and the sector, by providing appropriate insight and commentary.
- To be innovative and curious in investigating hypotheses and pursuing analysis, delivering frequent new or updated insight.
- To work with the central data development team in developing data reports and using the data to its full potential.
- To respond quickly and accurately to a range of internal and external data requests.
- To keep up to date with research in their area of expertise so that work is informed by the latest findings and outputs fit into the wider policy context.

**Technical skills**:

- Skilled in analysing data and information from a variety of sources and identifying and interpreting key issues and risks.
- Ability to translate and present analysis in a variety of different formats to a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills with experience of maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in Excel and/or experience of working in one or more of the following programming languages: R, Python or SQL. (This may be explored at the interview stage and only taken into account if there is a tie).
- Skilled in analysing data and information from a variety of sources and identifying and interpreting key issues and risks.
- Ability to translate and present analysis in a variety of different formats to a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
