The Role

In this role you will join the research teams of Dr Sarra Ryan and Professor Anthony Moorman in the development of bioinformatic pipelines for the analysis of long-read whole genome sequencing data in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Working as part of the Leukaemia Research Cytogenetics Group, you will determine the clinical significance of novel genetic variants that are associated with childhood ALL development to improve risk-directed treatment stratification.

You will work closely with internal and external collaborators to develop and utilise tools and pipelines to process, align and analyse sequencing data produced from long read (Oxford Nanopore Technologies) and short read (Illumina) technologies. The work will be performed using high performance cloud computing solutions, including the Genomics England Trusted Research Environment. This position offers the opportunity to develop and utilise bioinformatic, biostatistic and computational methods for next generation sequencing approaches in childhood leukaemia patients.

You will have a PhD (or be near completion for appointment at Research Assistant) in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Systems Biology or a similar discipline, including experience in Bioinformatics and Programming.

This appointment is a fixed term post until 31st October 2026.
