The Role
The main purpose of the post is to work as an integral part of the ‘Homes for Living’ (HfL) project team. This is a UKRI Innovate UK funded collaboration between E.ON, Newcastle University and ADL Smartcare. HfL aims to support people to age well so they can stay in their own homes for longer, helping retain their independence and stay connected with their families. It builds on the work of E.ON’s Warm Homes Fund, supplemented by products and services, like safe kitchens and bathroom upgrades, that support active healthy ageing. The qualitative evaluation aims to describe and gain an understanding of the implementation of these home-based solutions for older people.
We are seeking an experienced qualitative researcher for 12 months to support a qualitative evaluation of HfL. You will be working with a multi-disciplinary team and will support this evaluation by carrying out interviews with older adults participating in the wider project and writing academic reports and publications.
This post is fixed term for a period of 12 Months.
Key Accountabilities
To help plan and conduct the research, supported by senior team members
Recruit older adults to take part in the qualitative study which involves providing information and study explanations and completing the informed consent process
Carry out semi-structured interviews either in person or via telephone
Work collaboratively with other partners and stakeholders within and connected to the project group
Document research output, including, analysis and interpretation of data, maintaining records, drafting progress reports and papers as appropriate
Contribute to the production of high quality outputs from research activity including (but not limited to) publications for peer reviewed journals, publicity materials and reports, website content
Be aware of, and comply with, current data protection legislation regarding data collection, analysis, reporting and storage
Any other relevant activities required by the Principal Investigators
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
An understanding of conducting research in a health and social care setting
Demonstrable understanding of qualitative methods and/or evaluation methods
Ability to build effective relationships with a range of different stakeholders, across different levels
Evidence of potential to write for peer reviewed publications and present findings at conferences
Ability to communicate effectively and confidently to a range of audiences and stakeholders
Evidence of the ability to deliver high-quality work within agreed timelines
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritise and to manage conflicting priorities
Aptitude to work flexibly and cooperatively with others
Experience of working with older adults (Desirable)
Experience of undertaking literature searching and data monitoring (Desirable)
Knowledge of relevant qualitative research software packages
Attributes and Behaviours
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
High level of attention to detail and accuracy
Motivated, proactive researcher
**Qualifications**:
MSc/MA/MPH for Assistant - or for appointment at Associate level, a PhD - in health sciences, public health, psychology, social sciences or a related field
