Overview

For Local Communities & Partnerships this means building positive relationships and genuine partnerships with London’s boroughs and the communities we both serve. You will be caring, open and adaptable.

A flexible approach to working is required, and may require the occasional evening and Saturday working. This role is politically restricted

Key Accountabilities
- Working actively and directly with the Head of Local Communities and Partnerships and other Community Partnership Leads to shape TfL’s strategic engagement on policies, projects, campaigns and events that affect the people we serve at a local level.
- Working collaboratively with other Community Partnership Leads to identify, build and maintain effective and genuine two-way relationships with elected and non-elected representatives at borough and community level.
- Being responsible for providing team members with the tools and environment to embed new ways of working during a period of change and be an enthusiastic advocate for carrying out the necessary business improvements.
- Being accountable for managing relationships with your assigned third party audiences to support TfL’s objectives.
- Being active in seeking out opportunities to bring innovation and new thinking to your own work and that of your team in the development and delivery of communications and engagement plans both to colleagues internally and external audiences.
- Being active in briefing colleagues across TfL on stakeholder communications and community relations issues to ensure we act as an integrated organisation with a single goal in our communications.
- Being responsible for overseeing the scheduling and budgeting for local engagement. Oversee and lead outreach events, forums and visits, ensuring senior managers present are briefed and understand any sensitivities associated with the business.
- Where relevant, working with third party organisations to ensure plans, proposals and communications do not negatively impact TfL’s reputation.
- Working with TfL colleagues to draft responses for stakeholder enquiries, including for Mayor’s Questions, London boroughs and local councillors.

Knowledge
- Evidence of a good understanding of the complexities of high-profile public sector organisations operating in highly challenging political and institutional environments.
- Understanding of local government procedures and culture, the politics of London government, and the interface with local communities.
- Excellent knowledge of communications and stakeholder engagement best practice, devising strategic engagement plans and utilising a variety of engagement tools
- Good knowledge of meaningful consultation, engagement processes and techniques
- Knowledge of developments and emerging best practices in transport in the UK and globally.
- A good understanding of TfL’s values and aspirations.
- Educated to degree level or with relevant experience.

Experience
- Experience of working in a mainstream public affairs environment, dealing with stakeholder audiences.
- Extensive experience in a cross-section of communications functions, including stakeholder engagement, is essential
- Experience in the transport or community sectors is desirable.
- Experience of taking responsibility for embedding change and new ways of working would be an advantage.
- Experience of proactively engaging with external audiences and political institutions.
- Experience of managing a high-performance team.
