**About us**:
The Department of Neurodegenerative Disease is recognised as internationally leading in the study of neurodegenerative diseases causing dementia and related disorders. The Department has a strong focus on mechanistic dissection of genetic, molecular cellular and neuropathological processes which underlie neurodegeneration in particular diseases and across the neurodegeneration spectrum. A related touchstone of our research is to identify pathophysiological mechanisms and markers that link molecular pathology to clinical phenotypes of neurodegenerative disease.

The Fluid Biomarker Lab, based in the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease, is interested in all aspects of fluid biomarkers pertaining to neurodegenerative diseases and their measurement. We have a suite of immunoassay platforms and the expertise to advise our collaborators what biomarkers they should be looking at and how. We also take on new assay development projects - using homebrew to make previously unavailable assays on super-sensitive platforms.

**About the role**:
You will validate neurodegenerative disease biomarkers on a new and innovative platform provided to us by our collaborators at Genetic Microdevices Ltd. This will involve identifying antibodies, setting up assays, validating assays on the novel equipment and comparing assay performance against Simoa gold standard assays.

The role is available from April 2023 and funded by Innovate UK for one year in the first instance.

The post is graded as UCL Grade 7 with a starting salary in the range £38,308 - £41,474 per annum including London Allowance.

Appointment as Research Fellow is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be as Research Assistant (salary £34,502 - £36,348 per annum) with appointment as Research Fellow being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
