**Job Overview**:
An opportunity has arisen for an HR Operations Lead to work within our HR Operations team. This role involves providing expert advice and guidance on employee relations, managing HR queries and supporting a small team.

There will be occasions where you will be required to deputise for the Head of HR Operations and to ensure appropriate levels of support and management are always available to the HR Operations team.

Whilst the HR Operations Team provides support across UKRI this role will specifically focus on the Medical Research Council (MRC) and Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Planning and Organising _
- Manage the planning required for each Council / Department with the HR Business Partners (HRBPs) in those areas to ensure that the annual Cycle of Business happens effectively, and that roles and responsibilities are agreed.
- Create and deliver workshops and local training initiatives to support the lifecycle of HR business (e.g., line manager tool kit sessions, briefings, moderation panels, analysis of appraisal form quality, analysis of exit interviews)
- Projects _
- Initiate and lead the governance and delivery of specific HR projects and initiatives in conjunction with HRBPs, Centres of Expertise (CoE) leads and the Oracle Fusion implementation programme team.
- Ensure project scope is agreed and understood, with clear deliverables and plan, and roles and responsibilities for HR Operations are understood, resourced, and agreed. Manage delivery of projects and involvement of HR Operations staff (bringing in other staff to support), and coach and support team members to deliver project work.
- Casework _
- Work with the HR Operations Lead for Employee Relations to establish good practice methodologies for all types of case work across the HR Operations team - and provide coaching and support to junior staff managing cases - to ensure that cases are consistently and appropriately managed.
- Create opportunities to improve communication and guidance to staff and line managers - ensuring up to date, clear and consistent information on HR policies and processes and answers to routine questions is available.
- Work with the HR Operations senior team to oversee the whole casework portfolio, and identify risks, themes, and interventions required. Liaise with HR Policy team where guidance needs improving or updating and liaise with HRBPs and CoEs to identify opportunities to reduce or prevent further cases arising.
- Team leadership _
- Line manage a team of HR Operations staff, and provide coaching and mentoring to support service delivery, capability, and personal development.

**Person Specification**:
Essential
- CIPD membership and/or equivalent relevant professional experience
- Demonstrable experience of planning and organising service delivery in situations where there are conflicting and completing service demands.
- Excellent customer service and stakeholder management skills and experience
- Experience of leading and managing projects, and of supporting and coaching others Involved with projects.
- Demonstrable experience in dealing with HR casework, managing the associated risks and making recommendations to managers and HR management on options for resolution.
- Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills - and experience of effecting change across a complex group of stakeholders.
