Swindon, United Kingdom UKRI Full time

**HR Ops Lead - ER and CIU Interface**

**Salary: £50,702**

**Hours: Full time**
**Contract Type: Open Ended**
**Location: Polaris House, Swindon, Wiltshire (Hybrid working options available)**

As the HR Ops Lead - Employee Relations and CIU Interface, you will provide expert advice and guidance on Employee Relations, HR queries and complex ER casework across UKRI.

There is potential for this role to change over time but you will initially have responsibility for:
**Casework**
- Leading on the more complex casework, working with line managers to conduct investigations and leading (and coaching) them through processes that carry more risk or may lead to tribunal (e.g. disciplinaries, complex grievances)
- Leading on casework where litigation is likely or has been initiated, liaising with Acas, legal advisers and Tribunals (as appropriate). Providing support to witnesses and assisting in preparation of document bundles and requests to settle claims. Attending tribunals as appropriate and initiating “lessons learned”.
- Establishing good practice methodologies for all types of casework across the HR Operations team, providing coaching and support to junior staff managing cases to ensure that cases are consistently and appropriately managed.
- Creating opportunities to improve communication and guidance to staff and line managers - working with the HR Policy Lead to ensure up to date, clear and consistent information on HR policies and processes and answers to routine questions is available.
- Supporting the Heads of HR Operations in overseeing the whole casework portfolio for the team, and identifying risks, themes, and interventions required. Liaising with HR Policy team where guidance needs improving or updating and liaising with HRBPs and COE to identify opportunities to reduce or prevent further cases arising.
- Working in accordance with the HR Delegation Framework to escalate cases as appropriate, advising the UKRI Communications function of cases that might gain media attention.
- Maintaining a cohort of suitably trained managers across managerial grades, councils and corporate functions who are able to undertake investigations under the provisions of UKRI and MRC Policies and to chair formal hearings (including appeals).
- Ensuring that casework is monitored, appropriate trackers are maintained and that tribunal deadlines for litigation are recorded and adhered to.

Centres, Institutes and Units (CIUs)
- Providing professional advice, guidance and support to senior staff and managers on complex people management issues. Ensuring that all HR actions are planned and undertaken in a manner that minimises organisational exposure and financial risk.
- Providing materials and briefings prior to meetings such as JCCC and providing input during the meetings.
- Supporting the delivery of any future MRC/NERC CIU restructuring/change programmes, including advising on business cases and ensuring that requests for BEIS and Cabinet Office approval are produced and submitted.
- Co-ordinating MRC redundancies ensuring that cases are submitted in a timely manner for internal approval and for sighting or approval as appropriate by BEIS.

**Projects**
- Leading specific HR projects and initiatives to support HRBPs and/or COE leads (for example running a TUPE process).
- Co-ordinating UKRI restructuring programmes (including redundancies), advising on the construction of business cases and change requests and ensuring that proper approvals are obtained.

**Skills/knowledge/experience required for the role**
- University degree in HR or equivalent relevant professional experience
- CIPD membership and/or equivalent relevant professional experience
- Demonstrable experience in dealing with the full range of complex and challenging HR casework, mitigating the associated risks and working closely with the UKRI Legal team to make recommendations to managers and HR on options for resolution.
- Demonstrable experience of managing the full range of restructuring exercises, up to and including redundancies, managing the associated risks and making recommendations to managers and HR on options for resolution.
- Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills - and experience of effecting change across a complex group of stakeholders.
- Experience of leading and managing projects, and of coaching others who are supporting projects.
