UK Strategic Command (UKStratCom) supports the Ministry of Defence (MOD) by making sure that joint capabilities such as medical services, training and education, intelligence and information systems are developed and managed across all 5 domains (Land, Sea, Air, Space and Cyber) and also manages overseas joint operations.

Under the direction of Deputy Head Space Capability Planning, this role supports the C1 PNT desk officer with capability development of the Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) programmes and is part of the Space Capability Planning Group (CPG) within UKStratCom C4ISTAR branch.

**Job description**:
As part of the UKStratCom Space Capability Planning Group (CPG) this role will support the Head of Capability (HoC) C4ISTAR’s Sponsorship of cross-cutting Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) capabilities for Defence by managing the development of future PNT capability, acting as sponsor for PNT capability requirements through life, and gaining approval for the initiation of PNT capability delivery programmes.

PNT is an area of growing importance both within Defence and across Government. PNT underpins many of our everyday activities such as using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)
- including Global Positioning System (GPS) services
- to get from one place to another. A national PNT Office, Concept Demonstrator Project has been established to develop a cross-Government position regarding national PNT requirements and Defence is actively supporting this work.

Internally, Defence is adopting a Systems of Systems Approach (SOSA) to the development of PNT capabilities in-line with recent direction from the Military Capability Board (MCB) and Joint Oversight Requirements Committee (JROC). The post holder will play an important part in developing this approach, working with the new Programme Delivery Office in Defence Equipment and Support (DES) and Defence Science and Technology (DSTL) to support delivery of a range of PNT projects. There will also be opportunities to engage with our international partners and allies on PNT capabilities through bilateral meetings and annual conferences/symposiums.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide advice across UKStratCom, and wider MOD as a PNT Subject Matter Expert, respond to requests for information and engage with and brief the stakeholder community.
- Raise Options under the Annual Budget Cycle process; write and contribute to Business Cases, Review Notes and Information Notes for approval and lead on the production and maintenance of the PNT Command Acquisition and Support Plan (CASP).
- Work with the Delivery Teams within DES to drive the progress of the PNT programmes.
- Conduct engagement with Defence Science Technology Laboratory (Dstl), JHub, Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) on Innovation and Research and Development initiatives.
- Work with the wider CPG including the C1 Planner to maintain the PNT elements of the Capability Management Plan including driving their associated delivery activities, and the C1 and C2 International on international engagement as directed by the C1 PNT.
- In alignment with the wider UKStratCom C4ISTAR branch, understand PNT’s role within Multi Domain Integration (MDI).
