The Role

The main purpose of this role is to lead, and to develop further, research and teaching in human nutrition. As part of this role, you will be expected to contribute to curriculum development and to the wider academic, scholarly and professional requirements of the University.

You will undertake research and teaching in nutrition within the Population Health Sciences Institute, the Newcastle University Centre of Research Excellence (NUCoRE) in “Healthier Lives” and the Human Nutrition Research Centre (HNRC).

You will be expected to develop a focussed programme of innovative research that complements existing research in Newcastle. You will develop an effective strategy for attracting research funding from major national research funding bodies (including UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the component Research Councils, NIHR and major charitable foundations) that will enable you to build a vibrant research group. You will be expected to engage with the research agenda of the Biomedical Research Centre.

The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Knowledge of research ethics, good clinical practice and research governance and experience of designing and conducting research with human participants Evidence of ability to carry out research within agreed timelines and budget, meeting project milestones and producing research to an appropriate standard Track record of success in bidding and attracting research funding and demonstrated ability to conduct high quality research that commands international recognition Record of high-quality publications and excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentations to academic/non-academic audiences Evidence of ability, and willingness, to work as part of a team and on own initiative
Knowledge, ability, and expertise to teach and supervise projects in Nutrition and other related topics at both undergraduate and postgraduate level
Desirable
Ability to lead and coordinate modules or courses in higher education Experience of conducting mechanistic research in human nutrition Record of engagement with national or international research networks or institutions

**Qualifications**:
PhD in Nutrition or a related discipline
Desirable
First degree or Masters in nutrition, metabolism, molecular sciences or a related discipline
Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or equivalent qualification for teaching in UK Higher education
Accredited Nutritionist with the Association for Nutrition
