**Purpose of the role**:
**Overview of the role**:
The Government Liaison Officer will be responsible for coordinating ZSL’s development and implementation of the Biodiverse Landscape's Fund Western Congo Basin Programme with the Government of the Republic of Congo. Working with the relevant authorities, the BLF Government Liaison Officer will work with the and the BLF Programme Director to align the BLF objectives and strategies with those of the Government of The RoC.

**Key responsibilities**:
The duties of the role will include:

- **Technical Delivery**:Support in delivering project activities on behalf of ZSL in the Republic of Congo, including;
- Coordinating activities leading to the development of policy level outputs in the BLF which aligns with the government of RoC’s national strategies and objectives.
- Building on existing relationships with government designated focal points in the relevant ministries.
- Identify conservation partners in the region to develop strategic partnerships for delivery.
- Ensuring co-design and delivery of the BLF programme components with the relevant Ministries and BLF Component Leads and other senior ZSL and partner management.
- Building and strengthening capacity of government institutions and agencies in policy areas relevant to the BLF.
- Supporting the identification, mapping, legal recognition, and sustainable management of Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas (ICCA) and community forestry to improve functional connectivity of protected areas.
- **Partnerships**:Establish and maintain positive working relationships with project partners, ensure project deliverables are met and share capacity and learning with relevant authorities.
- **Strategy**:Feed in and adaptively manage ZSL’s strategy for government engagement in the Republic of Congo under the leadership of the Landscape Governance Lead.
- **Ethical conduct**:Ensure that all activities and personal conduct is delivered to the highest ethical standards, in line with ZSL policies and procedures.

**About You**:

- A relevant academic qualification to Bachelor’s degree level or equivalent, professional experience, in the field of natural resource management, policy, international development, spatial planning, geospatial technology, sociology, anthropology, wildlife conservation, forestry, agronomy, etc
- Good network of relationships with Governments (forestry administrations, environment, spatial planning administrations, law makers) in the Republic of Congo),
- Good networks with private sector, civil society, indigenous peoples platforms and regional organisations such as COMIFAC, OFAC, CBFP, RIFFEAC, CEEAC, etc.
- Track-record of project implementation in the Congo Basin, specifically in the Republic of Congo.
- Experience in implementing thorough safeguarding and health and safety practises and protection principles across a diverse number of stakeholders to ensure our duty of care is adhered to.
- Fluent English and French (spoken and written)
- Experience of working successfully with a broad range of stakeholders including government, NGOs, IGOs, Private Sector, Indigenous Peoples and/or Community Groups.
