The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

We are the independent regulator for England’s seas, professionally delivering service-focussed outcomes for our customers.

We are a team of around 400 people and combine our Newcastle upon Tyne and London operations with a local presence around the English coastline in Brixham, Beverley, Harwich, Hastings, Lowestoft, North Shields, Hayle, Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth, Preston, Scarborough, Shoreham, Whitehaven.

We also have colleagues based in Defra offices, including Bristol, Cambridge and York where we share office space.

Job description 1

The role of Principle Marine Officer (PMO) Investigations is a pivotal role, you will manage a team of Investigating Officers, ensuring investigations are undertaken in accordance with national criminal procedure guidelines and MMOs investigative processes.

The role holder will make appropriate sanction decisions for investigations, ensuring those decisions are compatible and consistent with internal guidance material, the MMO Compliance and Enforcement Strategy, previous sanction decisions and the Code for Crown Prosecutors.

The Principal Marine Officer Investigations will work closely with teams across the MMOs Operations Directorate, other government agencies and devolved administrations, with a particular focus on working in conjunction with the PMO for intelligence and risk.

**Personal performance**
- Maintain routine engagement with coastal, operational and legal teams to identify, progress and finalise investigations.
- Ensure investigations records are updated to reflect the status and outcome of each case, producing reports for senior managers highlighting performance against KPI targets.
- Ensure all investigative actions are compliant with PACE Codes of Practice and requirements.

**Finance**
- Ensure value for money through effective and efficient use of resources.

**Stakeholder Management**
- Maintain strong working relationships with environmental and fisheries law enforcement partners including devolved administrations, identifying opportunities for joint working.

**Continuous Improvement**
- Constantly seek to improve investigative practices ensuring consistency with other law enforcement agencies and established best practice.
- Contribute towards training of staff across the organisation in the best practice of investigative procedures.

**People Management**
- Ensure the development and skills of the team members are fit for purpose, workloads are manageable, a wellbeing-focused and positive culture is maintained, innovation and creativity are encouraged, and performance is managed.
- Manage personal performance of your individual team members through scheduled performance reviews and regular one to one meetings ensuring personal aspirations are discussed and supported where possible
- Work collaboratively with other Principal Marine Officers to share best practice and ensure consistent standards
- Ensure organisational priorities are communicated and understood by your team and empower them to cascade further
- Provide opportunities to develop resilience and support succession planning.

- Ensure that the MMO values and code of conduct are embedded in your daily activity and you provide feedback to others
- Comply with all MMO policies and procedures at all times
