Senior Advanced Neonatal Practitioner, Nicu

We are looking for an exceptional, highly motivated, innovative individual to join our team of ANNP’s at our tertiary level medical NICU in St. Peter’s Hospital, Surrey. We are well known for our forward-thinking non-invasive approach to intensive care. We have close working relationships with our high risk obstetric service and fetal medicine team, and care for many complex and preterm infants. As a regional centre we accept both in and ex utero transfers from a wide geographical area. We take pride in exceptional outcomes for our families, with a robust commitment to ongoing quality improvement. There are fully integrated support services of pharmacy, social services, family support, dietetics, radiology, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and a community neonatal outreach team. We have a strong commitment to QI and excellent participation in research. Our team regularly contributes to national, international meetings as well as national working groups from CRG, BAPM to NICE. We work closely with our colleagues in maternity including in the MatNeo QI programmes of work. St Peter’s hosts the Surrey Neonatal Transport Team, a collegial effort, together forming the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Neonatal Transfer Service.
The ANNP role encompasses that of educator, expert clinician, consultant, auditor, researcher and developer. In collaboration with the senior nurse neonatal services and Consultant Neonatologist the advanced neonatal nurse practitioner will:
Have specialist knowledge of neonates across a range of clinical issues, underpinned by the theory and practice acquired through an ANNP education programme at master’s level.
Provide expert clinical care and management of the neonate and his/her family, making complex autonomous decisions utilising expert practice.
Have responsibility for the assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, to deliver optimal medical and nursing care.
Will be expected to work across role boundaries, providing comprehensive holistic care sensitive to the needs of babies and families accessing neonatal services in the network.
Act as a role model and provide leadership, clinical support and expert advice to junior medical, nursing/midwifery staff and students.
Participate in the provision of specialist education and training programmes for health care professionals and other professional groups dealing with neonates across the network.
Be responsible for a designated group of nurses within the NICU to identify their educational and training requirements via appraisal, clinical supervision and personal development plans.

The Senior ANNP role crosses the clinical boundaries between nursing and medical care using advanced clinical knowledge and skills to work independently with support provided by a clinical supervision.
Promotes a high standard of advanced neonatal nursing and medical care by initiating and coordinating assessment planning delivery and evaluation of the holistic needs of babies, parents/carers and families through evidence based practice following agreed policies protocols and guidelines
A Senior ANNP exercises independent judgment to provide all elements of clinical care using holistic family centred approach which may include assessment planning provision of care and treatment diagnosis investigation and referral evaluation transfer discharge and follow up care
The Senior ANNP will contribute to the tier 2 rota (Middle Grade ST4-8, Clinical Fellow) and clinical nursing shifts determined by their level of experience and competence.
The Senior ANNP will work within the MDT to deliver advanced clinical neonatal nursing and medical practice education support and clinical leadership.
