Specialist Liaison

The Criminal Justice Liaison & Diversion Service (CJLDS) is a countywide service to Kent and Medway’s Police custody suites, Crown and Magistrates Courts and the wider community.
CJLDS is an all age service, providing liaison and diversion both within and out of the Criminal Justice System. We assess individuals over the age of 10, suspected of committing a crime, with identified health and social care vulnerabilities. The aim of the service is to reduce rates of re-offending and assist in the efficient and effective movement through the Criminal Justice System, by improving access and engagement with health and social care services.
We have an innovative new opportunity within the Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service as we look to develop an additional position for a Specialist Practitioner within Kent’s Courts, providing guidance and support to the team and wider partner including Probation, Judiciary and community-based organisations.
We are seeking to recruit an experienced practitioner to join our thriving service at CJLDS.The post holder will be required to complete biopsychosocial assessments in court settings across Kent, with the busiest sites identified to be Folkestone and Medway Magistrates Courts. You will have the opportunity to work autonomously within various court settings, completing screening/assessments of patients/defendants as requested or identified by our partners. You will provide advice, to reduce adjournments for full medical reports, through the provision of quality reports prepared on the day of a court hearing or prior to this. You will provide specialist mental health advice for cases where in-depth or full psychiatric reports are required such as post report recommendations and referrals to primary, secondary or tertiary services.
You will have autonomous responsibility for conducting assessments and reports in a timely manner, contributing to risk management and liaison with other stakeholders thus enabling access to the appropriate level of care and intervention. You will also have the opportunity to provide additional data about the service provided to the courts, contributing to service development and delivery.
Come and work with us in the Garden of England where we combine exceptional professional development opportunities with a tremendous quality of life.
We are Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT), providing mental health, learning disability and specialist services, serving 1.8 million people across the county.
The Trust (rated Good overall by the CQC and Outstanding for care) has 3,283 staff working in 66 buildings across 33 locations, covering an area of 1,450 square miles.
You will be joining friendly, passionate colleagues, rich in their diversity, who are committed to providing excellent care to our service users and their loved ones.
The nature of our work attracts kindness and compassion as standard and everyone from our cleaners and porters to the chief executive and chairman are recognised as playing a vital role in providing an exemplary service.
The post holder will work as a Specialist Liaison & Diversion Practitioner, responding to referrals from within the criminal justice system, providing an all age screening and assessment service for those with identified health or social vulnerabilities coming through the court process.
We are looking for forward thinking and enthusiastic individuals, with a keen eye for holistic assessment, risk assessment, formulation and innovative decision making. Some experience of liaison, crisis intervention or forensic services would be an advantage in this exciting role but all previous clinical experience is welcomed.
The post holder will have the opportunity to liaise with a multitude of services across different disciplines, receiving referrals, identifying care pathways and facilitating diversion within or out of the Criminal Justice System, where appropriate.
If you would like to find out more about this interesting and varied role then please contact Tamara Whiting, Advanced Practitioner on 0800 197 5542.
