Liaison Diversion and Reconnect Youth Coordinator

Maidstone, United Kingdom Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust Full time

The Liaison Diversion and Reconnect (LDR) service is a countywide service to Kent and Medway’s police custody suites, Crown and Magistrates Courts and the wider community.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Youth Coordinator post within LDR. This is a great chance for anyone with a background working clinically with young people, in youth work, youth justice, or similar areas of work to join the team and have a hand in shaping the service provided to young people by LDR.

The Youth Coordinator will work as a member of LDR, providing screening and supported follow-up for individuals, under the age of 18, coming to the attention of the criminal justice system.

Mainly working in the community but also in police custody suites and courts, you will provide face-to-face and telephone screenings/assessments of young people, which will inform appropriate methods of disposal within or out of the criminal justice system and enhance access for these groups of vulnerable young people into multiagency support to meet their needs. You will be referring and signposting to various services in the community so that young people can access the most appropriate support. You will provide additional support to the young people in the community where appropriate. You will develop effective links with a multitude of services, enabling smooth pathways through the criminal justice system and work closely with our partners.

LDR is an all-age service, providing liaison and diversion both within and out of the Criminal Justice System. We assess individuals over the age of 10, suspected of committing a crime, with identified health and social care vulnerabilities. The aim of the service is to reduce rates of re-offending and assist in the efficient and effective movement through the Criminal Justice System, by improving access and engagement with health and social care services.

Come and work with us in the Garden of England where we combine exceptional professional development opportunities with a tremendous quality of life.

We are Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT), providing mental health, learning disability and specialist services, serving 1.8 million people across the county.

The Trust (rated Good overall by the CQC and Outstanding for care) has 3,283 staff working in 66 buildings across 33 locations, covering an area of 1,450 square miles.

You will be joining friendly, passionate colleagues, rich in their diversity, who are committed to providing excellent care to our service users and their loved ones.

The nature of our work attracts kindness and compassion as standard and everyone from our cleaners and porters to the chief executive and chairman are recognised as playing a vital role in providing an exemplary service.

Please refer to the separate job description and person specification for more details.

The po s t ho lder will be required to regularly travel within the county to meet the needs of the young people and the service. The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

LDR offers flexibility in working patterns and although the post will be based at The Red House in Maidstone*, there is some flexibility on where you work on a day-to-day basis, as long as the service needs are met.
- potential negotiation of base depending on where you live
